| Subject: Green Hornet # 1 With Mild $10.8 Million For Friday Sat 15 Jan 2011, 11:39 pm | |

The Green Hornet landed with more of a box-office prick than a sting, collecting $10.8 million on Friday, according to studio estimates. That puts the $110 million movie, starring Seth Rogen as the titular superhero, on pace for a four-day holiday weekend grab of about $36 million. Industry sources were predicting a debut of at least $40 million, so this result is a mild disappointment. Still, it may be too early to accurately gauge how Hornet will play out the rest of the frame. Despite acidic reviews, audiences polled by CinemaScore gave it a favorable “B+” rating, and those under 18 handed it an “A.” With many kids out of school on Monday, Hornet could inch its way back to that $40 million expectation.
The Vince Vaughn-Kevin James comedy The Dilemma, on the other hand, opened right in line with industry projections. The $70 million Ron Howard film grossed $6.1 million on Friday, which suggests a four-day tally of around $21 million. Its three-day total is headed toward $18 million, which is a significant step down from Vaughn’s last two opening weekends — Couples Retreat ($34.3 million) and Four Christmases ($31.1 million). In third was True Grit, which dropped only 28 percent from last weekend to trot away with $3.2 million on Friday. The King’s Speech, which doubled its theater count to 1,543 this weekend, rose to fourth place with $2.4 million. And Black Swan continued its extraordinary run with $2.4 million as well, although estimates place it $55,000 behind King’s Speech. By the end of the holiday weekend, the Darren Aronofsky ballet thriller’s cumulative gross should be within tippy-toe distance of $75 million.

| Whatever. They had the chance to revitalize a classic character and do him justice in modern day and they turn him into a comedic persona, FAIL on all levels, fuck if the movie's 'good' or not. | |
