'Argo' Wins Best Picture From Producers' Guild Of America - Oscar Next?

"Argo" won the Best Picture award from the Producers Guild of America on Saturday night, beating "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Django Unchained," "Les Miserables," "Life of Pi," "Lincoln," "Moonrise Kingdom," "Silver Linings Playbook," "Skyfall" and "Zero Dark Thirty." The PGA Award uses the same preferential system of ballot counting used by the Oscars and often the two top prizes agree. Sizes of the two voting groups is significantly different, however. There are more than 5,000 members of PGA, compared to about 500 members of the Producers' Guild.

The PGA and Oscars have concurred on 16 of the last 23 Best Picture champs – including all choices in the past five years. Below is the list of PGA Award champs since 2000. Asterisk signifies winner of Oscar for Best Picture:

This year the two awards agreed on eight nominees. Two of the PGA contenders didn't make the Oscar list: "Moonrise Kingdom" and "Skyfall." Academy voters only chose nine nominees, preferring "Amour" over PGA options.

Of the 14 award pundits polled by Gold Derby, 10 predicted "Argo" would win the PGA Award, while four opted for "Lincoln." See breakdown here.
