The CW’s series orders are not backing away from the network’s heavy sci-fi development trend this year.

The network has given a greenlight to superhero-drama The Tomorrow People, high school aliens drama Star-Crossed and its futuristic Lord of the Flies drama The Hundred. Plus, the network has also ordered historical soap Reign.

In other words: The CW did not order one contemporary soap. The era of shows like Gossip Girl and 90210, which so defined the network since its inception, is over. Year after year, modern semi-grounded soaps seemed to struggle, while more fantastical shows like Vampire Diaries and Supernatural have held up. The war for the heart of The CW is over and the genre-fans won.

The network has decided not to pick up pilots The Selection, Norfolk or Blink. For The Selection, this marks the second year a pilot based on the young adult novel has been, well, not selected. The CW also renewed bubble shows Nikita and The Carrie Diaries.

Go here for the current list of network pilots that have been picked up to series.

Updates to come, refresh for latest…

THE TOMORROW PEOPLE. Based on the original UK series, The Tomorrow People is the story of several young people from around the world who represent the next stage in human evolution, possessing special powers, including the ability to teleport and communicate with each other telepathically. Together, they work to defeat the forces of evil. Robbie Amell, Luke Mitchell star.

STAR-CROSSED (previously OXYGEN). Passion and politics threaten the peace and an epic romance ignites between a human girl and an alien boy when he and eight others of his kind (The Orion 9) are integrated into a suburban high school ten years after they and hundreds of others landed on Earth and were immediately consigned to an internment camp where they’ve been imprisoned ever since. Aimee Teagarden, Matt Lanter star.

REIGN. The previously unknown and untold story of Mary Queen of Scots rise to power when she arrives in France as a 15-year-old, betrothed to Prince Francis, and with her three best friends as ladies-in-waiting. The secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue. Adelaide Kane, Toby Regbo star.

THE HUNDRED. 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization, a massive spaceship housing the lone human survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents with dark secrets back to Earth to investigate the possibility of re-colonizing the planet. Eliza Taylor, Paige Turco, Eli Goree, Bob Morley, Henry Ian Cusick star.
