In an Emmy shocker, "The Colbert Report" defeated "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" at the 65th annual ceremony Sunday night. Stewart's program had won as Best Variety Series ten consecutive years and was the heavy favorite again this year.

The "Daily Show" streak goes back to 2003. Before that the category saw five straight wins by "Late Show with David Letterman" (1998-2002).

Other programs in contention for 2013 were "Jimmy Kimmel Live," "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," "Real Time with Bill Maher," and "Saturday Night Live."
