TMZ reports that David Letterman announced his retirement from hosting The Late Show earlier today during the taping of his show in New York. Letterman told his audience that his last show will take place in 2015.

Letterman reportedly told the that audience that he's turning 67 and wants to spend more time with his family. He went on tos ay he would retire in the next year or two. The audience believed he was joking because he said, "Finally Paul and I can get married."

Letterman began hosting The Late Show for CBS in 1993. His contract with CBS is scheduled to expire next year, and Letterman does not plan on re-upping.
