ROH Title shot set for Chicago

There’s a storied history between current ROH World Champion Austin Aries and Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana dating as far back as the fall of 2004. As a matter of fact, Cabana was the first challenger for Aries’ newly won ROH World Title at “It All Begins” in January of 2005. That was all in the past; each man has experienced a great deal since then, both in their professional and personal lives, and each has spent some time away from Ring of Honor.

Yet in recent months these two competitors have found themselves drawn to one another once again. This should come as no surprise as Aries is once more the ROH World Champ, and that position alone draws the rest of the wrestlers in ROH closer to you. At “Final Countdown: Dayton”, Colt and Petey Williams were successful in defeating Aries & Rhett Titus when Cabana pinned Titus. A week later at “Final Countdown: Boston” the tables were turned when Titus pinned Cabana in another tag match where Kenny Omega served as Colt’s partner and Aries once again as Rhett’s ally. At “Survival of the Fittest 2009”, Cabana had a great showing while chasing a shot at the gold and upped his stock even further.

When Ring of Honor rolled back into Edison, NJ just a few weeks ago it was supposed to be the team of Colt Cabana & Grizzly Redwood taking on Austin Aries and Rhett Titus while Kenny King went one-on-one with Tyler Black. Aries and crew saw to it that the highly anticipated singles match never really happened as they assaulted Black only a few minutes into the contest. Cabana and Grizzly rushed the ring to even the odds, and when Aries, Titus, and King attempted to turn tail, Executive Producer Jim Cornette made his way to ringside and offered Aries an option: either wrestle a 6-Man Tag or pack his bags. Aries and his allies reluctantly took the tag option, and in the end it was Aries who tapped out to the Billy Goat’s Curse courtesy of Colt Cabana!

Cabana immediately petitioned for a shot at the ROH World Title by virtue of his positioning in the “Pick 6” as well as his submission victory over the champion, and after negotiations, Colt Cabana will indeed receive the next shot at Austin Aries and the ROH World Championship in his hometown of Chicago, IL!!! It will take place on Saturday night, December 5th: Colt Cabana versus Austin Aries for the ROH World Title!
