Pro Wrestling Unplugged, which has changed its name to Pro Wrestling Unscripted, began sending around a press release last night announcing they had signed a national television deal with Versus. PWU claimed they'd be "producing monthly 2-hour pro wrestling television specials to be aired exclusively on the Versus network" and that they would begin running events in New York, Connecticut, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, and Los Angeles in 2010. In addition, they announced that they would begin taping television at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on January 9 and had dates booked with the convention center through 2010.
PWInsider's Mike Johnson reported earlier today that Versus senior publicist Katie Bradshaw denied that PWU would be airing on the network, quoting her as saying via telephone "There is absolutely no truth to this. It's not airing on our network." Versus also denied PWU's claims in an email response to an inquiry Indy Wrestling News sent late last night.
There have also been claims that PWU has not booked the Pennsylvania Convention Center for the dates listed in their press release. My emails to the Pennsylvania Convention Center have not yet been returned, so I cannot confirm these claims.
We'll have more on this story if anything develops.
