| This is not aimed to address his mic work, character, booking or anything like that. We're strictly looking at his quality inside the wrestling ring here.
Orton can be very boring and inconsistent with his work at times, but overall I think he's had a worthy enough career for him to at the very least be considered a "good" wrestler.
Have not seen all his work this year, but what I have seen I must say Im very impressed.
-He was a prominent part of the Rumble's success in being a great match. -Carried Shane to a good match at No Way Out in a great character driven effort. -Has been in plenty of decent - good Raw tag team matches throughout the year. -Had a fantastic LMS match with HHH on Raw. -Had a brilliant performance in a fantastic match at Breaking Point. -Easily outperformed Cena at Bragging rights in yet another fantastic match.
Plus out of the stuff I haven't seen he's had supposedly good performances at SS and HIAC gave Dibiase the best singles match of his career among other achievements.
By all means he's had some letdowns but I think that's mostly due to his poor chemistry with HHH and a struggle with an injured Batista. Batista isn't a great worker this year (due to injury probably) compared to 07 + 08 and doesn't have the best of chemistry with Orton either. So overall I'd say he's hit and miss against a select few wrestlers, but has copped far more slack than is justified.
His 2004 was incredible, 2005 was very good, 2006 was below average (dealt with terrible booking though), 2007 was another breakout year full of quality and he had a series of great performances in 2008. This year isn't over and I think if you exclude his series with HHH (the two workers that should never have had such a long series) then he's had a plethora of praise worthy performances. Fair enough, he and HHH bombed out in the main event of the biggest show of the year - but it's like the disappointment from that has blinded people from all of the good stuff he's done since then.
His style isn't for everyone but it's effective as a heel, plays perfectly to his unique gimmick, makes him stand out and makes his opponents seem all the more exciting. Basically he makes marks and smarks alike get behind the face due to them wanting his "methodical" offence to end. I think it works and only stops him having a great match occassionally. Even if it's not exciting it's definitely effective and positions the audience exactly where they should be - against the heel. He's gone from being overrated in the ring in 2006 when he was struggling booking wise to being underrated in the ring in 2009 when he's at the top of the heel pecking order.

| tbh ppl tend to claim hes not a good wrestler, becaus he does the same moves, but tbh the way i see it, he does those moves, as thats what hes known for, its part of his "offense" ive always thought he was a good wrestler, he certainly aint the best, by a mile. But as this is sports-entertainment, you cant just have wrestling skills to get by, Shelton Benjamin is a testament to that | |

| Oh Orton made the rumble good? You mean having three people team up throughout the whole match made it more exciting? No.
And Orton is nowhere near underrated. In his 7 year career, his already a 6 time World Champion and Royal Rumble winner. How is that underrated, really?

| He does get pretty boring on the mic, he sounds like a robot, but he is a good wrestler and plays his character well | |

| This citrus flavored poster is all in the right.. I completely agree with him.
I wouldn't exactly call him underrated, because the internet masses overrate him.. but.. he's not really either all in all. |

| Ortan is good in the ring he can act a lot out in the ring which is why i like him when he wrestles but your right she is alittle boring on the mic but its his gimmick she is the killer he is a cold blooded killer and he does it well but after a while it gets boring he should go back to his cocky gimmick where he thinks he is the best and no one is better like when he first came in he was the best than. | |
