| Breaking news… Hiroshi Tanahashi has won the Tokyo Sports 2009 MVP Award!
Why is this significant, at all? Well, there are a couple reasons. Firstly, not since Keiji Muto in 2001 has a New Japan wrestler won the award and in recent years with the company’s revived fortunes, they have still been overlooked, so this is a significant achievement for Tanahashi and the company.
Secondly, this in ways is symbolic of the new generation as Tanahashi is the first post-3rd generation wrestler to win the award.
Congratulations Tanahashi!
New Japan’s Togi Makabe also netted a prize, winning the Toukon (Fighting Spirit) Award for his spirited showings this year and heroic G1 win. | |
