13 Years Ago, A Slayer Was Chosen!

In case that didn't automatically think of what the topic was about I am of course talking about Buffy The Vampire Slayer!

This post is not meant to make anyone feel old. I promise. But there is troubling news to deliver, so you might want to sit down. Sitting? Okay. Here it goes: It’s been 13 (!!) years to the day since Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered on the WB – in all fairness, I told you to sit.

I was nine years old when Buffy premiered on the WB. To be honest, I don’t remember much about it except that my sister watched it, and I sat there. I’m sad to report that I did not follow up that viewing with more. She continued to watch – it remains one of the only instances I can admit she was right and I was wrong. Years later, shortly after Buffy concluded its final season, I re-watched the premiere, and this time, I was smart enough to realize how awesome it was.

I watched the entire series in about two months, and the hole burned in my wallet from buying all the seasons that summer is still smoking. The cool thing was that despite completely missing the height of Buffy mania, there was (and is) still a great deal of Buffy mania. That’s the definition of great TV, I say. No matter how much time passes, it’s still fun to talk about and watch, and there is always someone willing to do both with you.


So on this glorious day, I am thankful that Buffy was born. I am thankful that Joss Whedon took his critical cow pie of a movie (It’s not that bad!) and made a TV series that defined a seriously nerdy generation. And I am thankful that this is one show Eric Balfour did not kill (I think they offed his character just in time.).


That said, share with me your Buffy memories. Did you watch the premiere? Were you hooked from the start? Or did it take you a while because you were a stupid 9 year old? Oh, and just because I can: Grrr. Argghh.

i got bored with the show but the movie is one of my faves.

i could never really get into the movie.. and yea ssilva i should pull out my dvd's.

I never seen the entire movie before but I know it is fucking terrible..

The only thing it was good for was to give Whedon the inspiration to turn it into one of the greatest shows on tv and surely one of the shows with the most devoted fans.

Buffy's mom isn't even the same in the movie.

Buffy still cont. in the comics.

I liked the movie and I even had the movie tie-in novel. Originally, I wasn't going to watch the TV show that replaced Savannah, but someone told me that it was based off the Buffy movie so I tuned in and became I fan. There have been moments where I got mad at the writing, I know a lot of people disliked the character; but I loved Kendra Young and I was pissed when they killed her off and said, "Well there can only be one slayer..." The they bring in Faith, not only did they bring her in yet another slayer contradicting their earlier statements, but the new slayer lived!

Anyway, I always though the three of them would've made an interesting dynamic on the show based on their personalities; ultra-obedient and by the rules Kendra, rebellious and out of control Faith, and finally Buffy who did things her own way walking the fine line between the two.

I know! ^ I liked Kendra.

Sucks that she died so soon would have been great to see a triple threat.

I guess it's cause i grew up on the movie. i love 80s movies with their silly comedies.

the show was too dramatic for me.

I loved the moment when Buffy and Kendra double teamed Spike and started kicking his ass, how awesome would it have been if they redid it with Spike and all three slayers.

Buffy: Bad news Spike.

Spike: Let me guess, two slayers again.

Faith: No, three.

Kendra: And I'm still pissed off about my shirt!

They really need to make a Buffy movie. I think it would be great and if other tv shows can do it like Sex and the City [maybe Friends and Sopranos] then they should do one as well!

If it wasn't for the movie, this wouldn't of been made

ehh, not exactly. Hollywood is very uptight with how they handle things...i doubt the show was made because of a movie flop. popularity caused the show to be made if anything else
