Well, this is starting to get interesting. Last night, news broke that Nicollette Sheridan had filed a $20 million lawsuit against Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry on charges of assault and battery, gender violence, wrongful termination, and “intentional infliction of emotional distress.” (The actress claimed Cherry had hit her when she complained about a script, and was killed off the show soon after. ABC released the following statement regarding the suit: “While we have yet to see the actual complaint, we investigated similar claims made by Ms. Sheridan last year and found them to be without merit.”)
Now, the actress’ lawyer has gone on the record to say Sheridan is fully expecting a character attack to be waged against her while the suit moves through the courts: “It will not be a surprise if ABC and Mr. Cherry try to depict Nicollette to be something other than a team player and long-standing industry professional,” lawyer Mark Baute said in a prepared statement.
I’m not going to speculate how or if the network and Cherry might fight back against Sheridan’s suit, but if Baute is right, we could need to prepare for the most scandalous Desperate Housewives tiff since that whole Vanity Fair craziness. Which makes me wonder — what are you more invested in right now: season 6 of Desperate Housewives or Sheridan’s lawsuit drama?
