E-Cigarettes Being Sold At Casino

Electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, are being marketed in Connecticut, but questions remain regarding the safety of the product.

The e-cigarettes only hit the Connecticut market last month at four retail outlets at Foxwoods Resort & Casino and on average, one a day have been sold.

E-cigarettes don't emit any smoke or tar. Users inhale a vapor of nicotine that's stored in a beige-colored cartridge.

Manufacturers said the device is safer than real cigarettes because it doesn't produce harmful chemicals.

However, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said while he hasn't received any complaints about the e-cigarettes, he still questions its safety.

Blumenthal said, "As I have repeatedly urged, consumers and retailers, including tribal casinos, should be wary of electronic cigarettes, which remain unapproved by the FDA. The safety of electronic cigarettes remains questionable at best following a preliminary FDA analysis that found cancer-causing chemicals and an antifreeze ingredient in some of these devices. These devices may falsely appeal to young people as a healthier alternative to cigarettes, when in reality they may risk leading youth into smoking, while also delivering an alternative health threat. Any carcinogen in a cartridge should be avoided, even banned, when the full extent of the ingredients and dangers are unknown."

E-cigarettes cost $129.95 for a deluxe kit, which is equal to 10 packs of cigarettes. A carton of cigarettes at the casino costs just over $100.

The casino said so far, 35 units have been sold.

The company that's marketing e-cigarettes is expanding and bringing the product to the Crystal Mall in Waterford next week.

Each refill of the cartridges costs almost $15 and equals one carton of cigarettes.

The world makes such a big deal out of cigarettes now days, not putting them in shows, all this NO DRUGS shit in school, warning labels on movies, stating there's use of them in the film, blah, blah, blah. We all know they're bad, it's you're choice rather you smoke them or not. I never smoked, nor will I ever touch the stuff, it's not my thing, but, so many people do it or did it. Like I said about the school shit, they go all wrong when trying to make things better.

Anyways, my mom uses one of these, she ordered hers. It was just a matter of time before they started to sell them in your face. Now that you've posted this, I'll probably start to see them in each of our 94834892 different casinos we need here.

Couldn't agree more. Going with this statement, they're are people who can maybe smoke one here & there, along with drinking, they will also more than likley be a smarter person, though, with the world the way it is, I can be prooven wrong. Which those, in my opinion, are the group of people who know it's wrong, though, like I said, one here & there won't hurt, rather than the ass holes who do nothing else. Though, other people do it constantly as a habit, & tell you it's wrong. THEN, the people who do it because it's the "cool thing", those are the worst. Those are the kind of people that need a little ass kicking in life, rather it be some sort of incident with smoking or otherwise.
