Nah, she always aimed for the upper part of the back and was probably instructed to do so since I doubt most of the divas have the neck muscles to take a full on axe kick to the back of the skull without breaking anything. A plus side to doing the axe kick this way is that she can kick higher and make the move look devastating.

Better on the back and safe, than on the neck and dangerous.

Which is probably why they had McCool switch to her new finisher rather than continue to use The Wings of Love; during one match they thought she was going to drop a diva on her head and neck which would've been a near disaster, but thankfully she didn't.

Speaking of The Wings of Love, I hated that finishing move name; I mean what's so loving about a move made to knock you out.
