why are diva matches so short?

Wwe’s Raw writers were at the San Diego Comic Con and they were asked why the diva’s matches were short.They told them this:

And if any of you were wondering what happened to the lengthy matches on RAW, or why a Diva like Eve might get stuck in match that only last for one minute…well, Gewirtz and Kosky had something to say about that too. “On RAW we have a live show,” Gewirtz said.
“And often times you can put aside a certain amount of time for the matches that you want to see and believe it or not, and I can’t speak for this panel [smiles right at The Miz] but sometimes the talent will go over the allotted time [crowd laughs] and that creates a domino effect that cuts into the time in the next segment and then the next segment and on a live show, if a segment goes three, four minutes heavy, you’ve got to take time out of something else.”
“Kind of like the Main Event stuff, with the beginning, middle and end, is going to take up the majority of the time so if something runs long then it’s the in-between stuff that gets cut,” Kosky clarified. “And that’s when you usually get your two minute matches. It’s just the cost of doing business when you do live TV.”

I guess wwe needs to eliminate one or two superstar matches so that we could see divas have longer matches or maybe more than one 2 minute match.I will always say this,the divas train and work as hard as the superstars but they always get short matches and the superstars get the long ones.Fair or not?

Dunno.. I just feel like that's an excuse they are using. Everyone knows they've got no interest in the division right now.

if the divas arent bringing in the ratings, then no they dont need equal time as the men. why extend a diva match if it is the lowest point of the show? not saying that they are...just a hypothetical. if the ratings took a dip when Maryse or Alicia come to the ring...why extend their tv time?

this is all a ratings game...if you arent pulling your weight in the ratings department, prepare to be downsized.

They should at least be getting 5 minutes. The bookers are just fricking lazy which is why we don't get feuds either

If your paying over 100 dollars and shit for tickets I don't care to see any diva match at all. I mean there a market for them but in general most wrestling fans could careless for them. I mean they use it as bathroom break or time to grab a snack at the show. I mean I would like to see William Regal Wrestle cause he is one of the best technical wrestlers in the world. I mean even Lance Storm might of pegged it during a tag match on monday. It was Santino and Kozlov vs Great Khali and William Regal. Regal got the most talent in that ring by miles. I mean I understand the divas got fanbase but I think in general most people feel they are being robbed when you pay money and they try to put a diva match on over what could be a longer match of a main event.

Plus to keep Viewers, if they stay to long, people might change the channel and lose interest. So for those with short attention span, they keep the matches short, so people will continue to watch the show.

Now at PPV's, they get 5 minutes, because they have no commercials and people do need to go pee and get a drink. So they use that time for that. It's all compromises, it's how the WWE works.

In TNA the Knockouts get an entire 3 minute matches and 5 minutes segments in one night.

The way i see it, the Divas get less TV time on 4 shows then the Knockouts get in 2 hours

If they had the right women in the ring and gave them some time people wouldn't be using that as their bathroom break. They'd be able to see what the women are really capable of, of course there'd still be the 5% of guys who still use it as their bathroom break because they don't even want to get the chance to see women wrestle. If you put women like Maryse and Eve in there for 5 to 10 minutes of course the crowd won't give a shit.

I'm just happy the matches are long at house shows since I'm going to another one in September and I love when the women get time to show what they can really do.

Maryse and Eve are pretty over. of course people would watch them in a longer match. back when Trish was in WWE she was always fighting behind the scenes for the divas to get more TV time and it worked. the divas in 2003 got about as much time as any other midcarders. and on 3 hour shows the divas get good length matches.

the main reason the divas don't have as high a fanbase is because WWE aren't properly supporting them right now. Mickie got over because they put effort into her feuds with Trish and Lita. Melina got over because of MNM and her feud with Beth. Beth got over because of Glamerella, her Royal Rumble appearance and the stuff with Vickie. if WWE put effort into them then they'd draw fans

Sorry, but no, the WWE are officially generelized, regardless of who is in the ring, people will shit on them. If we got Beth vs. Jillian or Beth vs. Natalya, or Natalya vs. Gail people just aren't going to care because it's a Divas match and there is no one else to blame then the WWE themselves. They created it.

TNA could book Lacey von Erich vs. Velvet Sky next week and the crowd would be all over that shit, regardles of who is in the ring, a Knockouts match is a knockouts match and a Divas match is a divas match. The name does all the diffrence in the eyes of the fans.

seriously? the Santino shit is arguably the most over portion of the show, and id rather have Santino comedy than boring ass diva matches

Maybe when WWE signs more talented workers for their women's division, they can try to make room for them. It would just be laughable if they did it now.
