TV fave Kyle Chandler ("Friday Night Lights", "Early Edition") and seasoned squat starlet Elle Fanning ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") are the first two cast members onboard J.J Abrams' super-shhhhhh'y "Super 8", says NYMag.com.
The film, like the Abrams-produced "Cloverfield", is shrouded in a large flask of secrecy. Though rumours suggest the film tells of a group of teens who find a video camera with footage of an alien on it, the studio has yet to release even a hint of the plot to the public populace.
What is known is that Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg have long-planned to staff the film with relative unknowns - not unlike "Cloverfield" - so that the film plays less like a film and more like a highly-hit homevideo someone's conveniently discovered on DailyMotion. Having said that, the first two cast members announced aren't exactly newbies to the game, are they? Most folks have seen Chandler in something (He was also in the films "The Kingdom" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still") and Fanning - if even thanks to her big sis - is a household name. At the same time, I guess Chris Mulkey popped up in "Cloverfield" and we'd all seen him a dozen times or more before - in flicks like "The Fan" and "The Hidden" - and it didn't take anything away from the film's feel.
