Lionsgate has nabbed the rights to “Judge Dredd”, the Karl Urban-starring reboot of Danny Canon’s ill-fated 1993 movie (starring an erroneously cast Sylvester Stallone, Diane Lane, Rob Schneider and Armand Assante) according to the newly coloured gloss gang at THR
The 3D film, based on the comic of the same name, is currently in production under the direction of [wildcard] Pete Travis (“Vantage Point”). “Red” star Karl Urban and rising newcomer Olivia Thirlby play Dredd and rookie Judge Cassandra Anderson, respectively.
If a script review at What’s Playing is anything to go by, Alex Garland’s libretto is tight.
This is a fast paced Gritty gory action movie that takes place In a city what I can only describe as Blade Runner on steroids ‘MEGA CITY ONE’ A huge hulking metropolis of Corruption , crime and Drugs that even The JUDGES can not handle.
The city is now dealing with a new cancer a Drug Called SLO-MO a narcotic that slows down reality for the user. Pushing this DRUG Is MA-MA CLANG a crime lord who runs the Peach Trees complex which becomes the setting for a night That Rookie Judge Anderson will never forget a rookie with abilities that the chief Justice believes can help the LAW.
She is teamed with DREDD for a ride along to see if she is capable of wearing the badge that DREDD doesn’t believe she has earned. She Failed Her Judge aptitude test and this is her only chance to prove she can dispense Justice that only The JUDGES can.

Responding to a call at the Peach Trees Complex DREDD and ANDERSON Investigate a murder leading to duo capturing a henchman. Ma-Ma Clang, owner of the complex, and employer of the prisoner, has the building locked down – complete with concrete shutters – so the Judge’s can’t escape. But a way out of the maze isn’t the duo’s only problem – Ma-Ma orders everyone in the apartment complex to terminate the Judge’s on sight!
