Benjamin/Haas Announcement

Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas, collectively known as the World's Greatest Tag Team, decided to make a major announcement on their future.

WWE TLC Review
Our very own Les reviews the Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay per view.

WWE TLC Review

If there ever existed a show to sum up the argument against WWEs gimmick Pay-Per-View schedule that has been implemented in the past 18 months, then look no further than Tables, Ladders and Chairs. Although not the worst WWE has put on in 2010, TLC showed throughout that shoehorned WWE television angles into pre-chosen gimmicks does not work, at all. With the overuse of TLC, poor booking and terrible angles in recent weeks including Cena's "fired but in rampage mode" antics and the tossing together of Smackdowns two biggest feuds for no reason, TLC was particularly destined to fail.

The saddest part of the show was with the exception of the confusing and at times stupid Divas table match, none of the blame can be placed with the talent. All the roster put their efforts together to try and make the show work, especially John Morrison and Sheamus who had an excellent ladder match to settle their feud, but the whole overpushing of the TLC gimmick dragged everything down. For example, it was difficult to get into the fairly decent opening Intercontinental Ladder Match, because the interest was invested in the two much bigger ladder matches on the same show, so that match had to be cut deadly short not to disrupt the others.

Another flaw was the decision to end the show with the John Cena and Wade Barrett chairs match, again, not a bad effort on the talents part, but trying to follow an ultra spotty fatal four way TLC match with that just wasn't going to work, and it made it hard to really get into the match or take the danger of the "chair" seriously. What is a chair match, I've now watched two of them and I still don't know, it's a no DQ match where they only use chairs for some reason? Don't know, don't care.

The other major issue with this show is it was SO PREDICTABLE. And I don't just mean the outcome of the matches themselves and the finishes (WWE Championship match), I mean the flow of the matches themselves. The fatal four way TLC match could be called almost spot to spot, I called some of the spots 10 minutes before they actually happened. It was an entertaining match, but the over spotty and under important nature of throwing these four guys together because....just because really hurt it's legitimacy and once again hurt your ability to get into the match. Edge winning the title also felt completely underwhelming, mostly due to the over the top nature of the show.

That sums it up really, too much focus on the gimmick, good performances on the whole but it was often irrelevant because the way the show was booked, structured and presented made it all feel meaningless like it was just a bunch of stuff happening. And considering that John Cena Vs Wade Barrett was supposed to be some big storyline pay off after months of feuding, that's a serious issue that really put this PPV down for good. Not terrible, but flawed to the point where it was certainly weak.

  • Dolph Ziggler defeated Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger in a Ladder Match: 6/10 - More inventive and less spotty than was expected, however three things hurt this decent opener It was far too short clocking in at less than 10 minutes, the ending was pretty poor with the title falling and Ziggler stealing it, and the excitement for this match was really low due to the overbooking of this show.

  • Beth Phoenix and Natalya defeated Laycool in a Table Match: 2/10 - I'm sure people think I'm just knocking this for being a Divas match, but I was expecting more from these girls on this occasion. The whole match was just a mess, filled with dodgey psychology of the dominating faces getting...dominated, spots that made no sense, very little selling, and again the finish was pretty weak. Poor effort

  • Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov defeated Nexus via DQ: 3/10 - Do I even need to comment? Just retire the tag belts WWE, it'll hurt less than why. A throwaway last minute addition that was totally pointless other than to hype the Chairs match.

  • John Morrison defeated Sheamus in a Ladder Match: 8/10 - Really good match from these two, a ladder match that was actually...a match. With the exception of the big spot near the finish being obviously set up this never became a mindless spotfest, which is impressive considering regular Morrison matches are often spotfests. Morrisons athleticism was used to produce innovative offence, both giving and taking, and it all worked well. Good stuff even if the ladder gimmick felt tacked on.

  • The Miz defeated Randy Orton in a Tables Match: 5.5/10 - Great storytelling and commentary in making The Miz look like a "beatable champion", the finish(es) were pretty lame but should get some heat on the Miz. The real finish involved Miz accidentally pushing Riley into Orton who fell through a well placed table. Good stuff psychologically but was a bit bland in-ring

  • Edge defeated Kane, Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio in a TLC Match: 7/10 - The rating is harsh, but there's a good reason for this. Simply put, this match was nothing but a spotfest, right from the start it was obvious this wasn't supposed to be a real match of any kind. The problem was there weren't really any innovative or impressive spots, these matches are too common for the current WWE style, and the simple overbooking of this gimmick hurt this match more than anything else. Entertaining but this match is the argument for why you don't have a PPV called TABLES LADDERS AND CHAIRS.

  • John Cena defeated Wade Barrett in a Chairs Match: 5/10 - I respect these guys for trying to have a proper match in this environment, but the Chairs match is one of the worst ideas ever and you just can't take it seriously. The other issue was the storyline leading up to this with the silly stuff on Raw with fired Cena running around made this match less important, so it was ridiculous to try and follow the TLC match with this which hurt it even more.
OVERALL SCORE - 5.5/10

Jeff Jarrett Responds
What does Jeff Jarrett have to say to the critics who think that TNA is going out of business?

Jeff Jarrett Responds

From the very first day that TNA came into existence, there have been wrestling fans who have been predicting (and hoping) that they would go out of business. There are people who are so loyal to Vince McMahon and WWE that they would wish against the entire wrestling business improving.

Jeff Jarrett, the founder of TNA, has heard all of the doom and gloom predictions. He simply has been able to forge ahead by not letting it get to him. He does, however, hear them.

The former NWA World Heavyweight Champion decides to send a message out to those that believe that TNA is about to follow in WCW's footsteps.

Quote :
"I think it has grown from a few critics in our fan base that was small back in 2002, and the fan base has continued to grow, and the critics have continued to grow. At the end of the day, I believe, that the critics that are so vocal, I think they're more upset more than anything, because the man in the mirror often times makes you the most upset. That they have continued to call for our demise, that have continued to say at first you wouldn't be around for six weeks, then six months. Every step of the way of our small successes, they've become more vocal and more vocal."

Kaval Released
Why did WWE release Kaval?

Kaval Released

Kaval is gone.

WWE has come to terms on the release of Kaval from the company. The announcement was made public on Thursday.

Publicly, the company is saying that the release was an amicable one. Both sides agreed that it would be best to part ways right now. The WWE writers did not have anything planned for Kaval, who would much rather work elsewhere than grow stagnate.

Privately, though, there are many who are questioning the move. Several backstage personnel, current stars and former WWE employees have expressed disappointment with the release. Some have questioned the timing of the release since the holidays are just right around the corner.

Kaval is under a 90 day "no compete" clause, which means that he cannot work for Ring of Honor or TNA during that time period. The 31 year old is expected to return to the independent wrestling circuit for the time being.

What did WWE do recently to upset Jeremy Borash?

The war of words between TNA and WWE continues.

TNA utility guy Jeremy Borash recently took a verbal jab at WWE. He was upset that the ultra talented Kaval had been released. Borash was also upset about the timing of the release.

Quote :
"Very grateful to be working for a company that gives out bonus checks at Christmas instead of walking papers."

Kaval was released by WWE on December 23, 2010.

Gillberg Interview
Which current WWE star came up with the idea for the Gillberg character?

Gillberg Interview

Duane Gill has spoken.

The former WWE star recently conducted an interview with a wrestling website. He explains the origin of the Gillberg character.

Gill noted that while he was working on the independent wrestling circuit, he was doing a gimmick where he would mock other wrestlers. Two of the guys that he made fun of were Steve Austin (Stone Old) and Undertaker (Underfaker).

The 51 year old Maryland native then talked about the idea with Kane and Paul Bearer, who both took the initiative to get the character green lit by Vince McMahon. The two staged a situation during lunch where a "Gillberg!" chant broke out. That was enough to get management's attention.

John Cena Discusses Kaval
Does John Cena feel that there's something fishy about Kaval's release?

John Cena Discusses Kaval

John Cena sense a conspiracy theory.

Earlier today, the wrestling world discovered that Kaval had been released by WWE. The official statement is that he's leaving on good terms because the writers simply cannot find something for his character to do. The belief is that the door has been left open for a possible return down the line.

Cena, however, feels that there's more to the story.

The former WWE Heavyweight Champion recently went to Twitter to post his opinions about Kaval being fired.

Quote :
"I guess wwe has released kaval. I have no clue why but this close to holiday would probally mean....... That it is pretty serious business."

CM Punk Heat
Was management upset with CM Punk for wearing an unauthorized Colt Cabana shirt on Raw?

CM Punk Heat

Earlier in the year, CM Punk wore a shirt that was associated with former WWE star Colt Cabana. It was in full view of the audience as the Straight Edge Superstar was working as a color commentator on Monday Night Raw.

Punk was recently asked if management had any heat on him for wearing it.

Quote :
"Nah. A lot of people in the WWE try to paint themselves as outlaws and rebels and I really honestly believe I'm the only one left [laughs] . I always do what I want and I never get any flack for it. I don't know if it's because they know they're not gonna win, or it's not worth fighting me over. Plus I don't see what the big deal is about me wearing a Cabana shirt. The guy should be working there, first of all, and it's promoting my friend. I don't see what the big deal is."
