Subject: Former WWE Creative Team Member Discusses 2005 Royal Rumble Outcome Sun 30 Jan 2011, 6:18 pm
Former World Wrestling Entertainment lead writer and current Ring of Honor on HDNet Producer, David Lagana, has a new blog up on his official website at IWantWrestling.com, where he discusses the outcome of the 2005 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view, how Batista mistakenly eliminated both himself and John Cena that night, how it was Batista’s night from the outcome, why Vince McMahon was the one who came to the ring to restart the match that night instead of Eric Bischoff or Teddy Long who were also backstage, how Vince McMahon ended up injuring himself that night and more.
Lagana noted that the win at the 2005 Royal Rumble was going to be Batista’s night, but “The Animal” almost cost himself the match. Batista was said to have had his bell rung from a punch by John Cena, and when he went to eliminate Cena, he mistakenly eliminated himself at the same time, causing chaos amongst WWE referees and backstage officials.
With the pay-per-view close to the time of going off-air, there was a call amongst WWE’s backstage officials for either Eric Bischoff or Teddy Long, the General Managers of RAW and Smackdown, respectively, at that time, to go out and restart the Royal Rumble match between Cena and Batista to have a proper ending to the event, however due to the size of the arena that night in Fresno, California, Vince McMahon was closer to the action than both men and went to the ring from the production table, where he had been sitting for close to three hours.
Lagana noted that everyone backstage looked at the monitors, not knowing what had immediately happened to Vince when he got out there as he fell inside the ring. Lagana noted that Vince had not stretched and had not warmed up prior to going out to the arena and as when he got out there in the ring with the main event of WrestleMania in the balance, he ended up sitting in the ring injured.
Vince restarted the match, which Batista eventually won, when he threw Cena over the top-rope, just prior to the pay-per-view going off-air. What amazed everyone in the back though and in something that was not seen on-air due to the timeframe of the pay-per-view, was despite the fact that Vince had injured himself, he walked to the back in no pain and was full of pride in that what he had set out to happen that night had occured, before the pay-per-view went off-air.
Lagana also goes on to note that Vince had torn both of his quads that night and was gone from the on-site World Wrestling Entertainment creative process for a period of time and that is when Stephanie McMahon jumped in to fill in the role. Lagana noted that it was the fast-forward button on a time when WWE would exist without Vince McMahon.

And I thought Triple H's quad injuries were bad...
His left or right quads have NOTHING on Vince's double quad simultaneous tear.

Because of exactly what happened to him...
Stretching would have gotten the blood flowing though his body, and his chances of an injury as this one would have been decreased.

LMAO Maybe. Maybe not.
IDK how he injured himself, no clue. He was a bit erratic though.
