"Modern Family" led with the most nominations (six) for the first Critics' Choice Television Awards bestowed by the Broadcast Television Journalists Assn., a new offshoot of the Broadcast Film Critics Assn. that bestows the Critics' Choice Movie Awards. "Mad Men" came in second place with five bids, "Boardwalk Empire" and "30 Rock" with four.

The awards will be presented June 20 at the Beverly Hills Hotel emceed by "So You Think You Can Dance" star Cat Deeley, nominated for best host of a reality TV show.

In addition to comedy series, "Modern Family" was nominated for five acting prizes in the supporting categories for Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Ed O'Neill, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara. Snubbed was costar Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who now knows what Ed O'Neill felt like last summer when O'Neill was the only principal star of "Modern Family" not nominated for an Emmy.

"Modern Family" and Stonestreet won top Emmys last year, and it was voted best comedy series by the Television Critics Assn., a rival group of TV journalists that has bestowed awards since 1985. TCA will announce its nominations June 13 or 14 and the winners will be unveiled on Aug. 6, according to TCA president Susan Young.

Some surprise nominations on the Critics' Choice TV Awards list will certainly be welcomed by tube aficionados — like the inclusion of "Fringe," "The Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones" for best drama series. Typically, fantasy shows are snubbed at leading showbiz awards. Animated programs usually get overlooked too, but "Archer" is up for best comedy series. Not nominated: "Family Guy," which got cited in the top race by the Emmys two years ago.

The Critics' Choice TV Awards will be streamed live June 20 by VH1.com and shown multiple times in edited format later on Reelz Channel starting June 22 at 8 p.m. ET.

those are some pretty good noms. i'm ok with them, since they really won't be on tv and hopefully some shows, actors ect. that really dont get the chance to win awards but deserve them win.
