SD Gets Lowest Rating of 2011 on Holiday Weekend!

-- WWE Smackdown on Friday, June 24 scored a 1.69 rating, down from a 1.71 rating the week before. It was tied for the lowest Smackdown rating of the year.

-- The most-recent Smackdown on Friday, July 1 scored a 1.62 rating, the lowest of the year and second-lowest on Syfy. Only the New Year's Eve edition scored a lower rating.

Other low points for the year were among male and overall adult demographics. Also, Smackdown averaged a year-low 2.3 million viewers.

Smackdown was part of weak overall ratings on cable TV Friday night due to the start of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Smackdown ranked #8 overall on cable, #7 among males 18-34, and #4 among males 18-34. Smackdown ranked #1 in the 8:00 p.m. EST timeslot among m18-49.

Compared to the "limited commercial free" edition of TNA Impact on June 30, Impact out-rated Smackdown among males 18-49. However, Smackdown reached a broader audience by capturing female viewers, as opposed to Impact, which scores virtually a zero rating in adult female demos.

Caldwell's Analysis: One more variable to add to the Smackdown formula: *Holiday weekend* summer time Fridays being a dead zone a product that is losing rather than gaining viewers over-exposure of stars on Raw Orton mis-cast as #1 lead babyface Christian not a strong-enough #1 heel post-WrestleMania lull Rock not around to raise the water level for WWE = the State of Smackdown.
