My Great Grandma Had a Stroke Today! :(

So yeah apparently it happened this morning.

My grandma [who lives in Fresno] got a call from the Chateau place where my great grandma stays [it is a nice senior care place] and they said she had fallen. She falls sometimes and usually it is not a big deal but my grandma had my cousin go check on her anyways. So my cousin went to her house and when she got there I guess it was worse then they said on the phone. They told my cousin she had a stroke.

So she was with my grandma for basically the entire day in the emergency room etc.

I didn't even find out til 3 pm today [I was at school] but when I did I went to visit her in the hospital.

She was hooked in all the machines and was sleeping. The nurses said it doesn't look good...

My grandma drove down here and so did my dad/sister but nothing really changed.

I went home around 10 pm but my grandma and cousin will be staying with her during the night.

I think my great grandma is going to have another cat scan thing since they said she has swelling in her brain so I hope things go well although being real it likely wont.

It is just really sad since she is the only person in my life who has actually been really close to dying that I can really remember [my grandpa Leo did but I was like 7].

So yeah it just sucks.

Aww, I hope everything turns out okay, Silva!

Sadly, I see this stuff everyday. We flew a patient by Medivac today that had a stroke and one last week that we think did.

You always hear how bad heart attacks are, but strokes are just as bad.

Stay strong and spend time with her, though being in the hospital can only allow so much time with her, spend all of the time you possibly can with her just incase.

Awww that horrible, I ope she gets better. My Father had a stroke when I was 5, so I know how hard and stressing this can be.

sucks and i'm sorry to hear

i just found out my close friend has lung cancer cause of his stupid parents smoking around him since he was 1 year old.

hes 23 now and only has 12 months to live. I'm so fucking pissed. his birthday is in 2 days and it might just be his last one to celebrate with us...this Christmas will be his last. very sad

I'm so angry with his parents I cant even look them in the face.

I Great-Grandmother died of a stroke when I was 5. I didn't really know her and being so young it didn't really affect me.

However, one of my Granddads died of lung cancer when I was 11, and that affected me a fair bit.

Just be strong if the worst does happen.

My dad died of pancreatic cancer in 95, still hard for me since he was the only one in my family I truly cared about

I'm so sorry Silva.

Spend as much time as you can with her. I lost my Aunt in January of 2010 and it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to go through.

Make sure she knows you love her.

Damn,Slva! I"m really sorry to hear this. Though, things look bleak; pray for the best.

The closest I've been to a situation such as this is when I lost my grandmother just after the new year in'99. To my knowledge, she died of heart failure.

I personally know abit about strokes; as I have had a minor one when Iwas just 10. The only thing I remember about it was waking up in ICU. Iwas already in the hospital for something else, so I gues right place, right time. An effect from it Ihave is cloudy memory.

Thanks to you all for the well wishes.

I was with her and my cousin/grandma basically the entire day today after school.

She is doing a little better but still can't really talk although she can respond to stuff like squeeze my hand or move your feet [mainly on her right side since the stroke affected her left side]. But she will need to stay in the hospital for a while and if she makes it out of the hospital she'll likely go to a special elder care place.

So yeah it is far from over but I'll spend more time with her and my grandma tomorrow.

Thanks again to you both.

I couldn't visit her today but I will try to get to the hospital on Saturday.

I already know I will see her on Sunday so if Sat doesn't work then I have Sunday.
