Since McCool left, she has just disappeared.

Does she even have house show matches?

Shows how much faith the E! has in her...

I don't think anyone is surprised by this though.

She's injured, a torn ACL and MCL.

Timing really sucks, too, since she'd just gotten put over by Michelle McCool and the Wrestlemania rub from Trish F'n Stratus. That meant she was getting a serious push, and would probably be Diva's Champion now instead of Kelly.

Yeah, it should be around then. I'm thinking Kelly's just keeping the belt warm for her. She'll drop it to a heel that Layla will feud with when she's back.

They could do that, but it's best, if you want to put over someone in a big way, to do it on one of the Big Four PPVs (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Survivor Series). Trish and Lita didn't pass the torch to Mickie on random Raws, but Wrestlemania and Survivor Series, respectively. Trish won her first Championship at Survivor Series. HBK passed the torch to Austin at Wrestlemania, and the Rock won his first WWF Championship at Survivor Series.

Even losing a Championship match at one of those increases your profile. Melina's match with Trish at Survivor Series '05 elevated her from eye candy manager to major contender and future Champion even though she lost.

Winning the Championship at Summerslam would give Alicia a high profile that winning it on SD wouldn't provide. That would be used to make a showdown with Layla at Survivor Series a big deal.

That's if they really want to get the Division back up, which I think they do. Why else would they have signed Awesome Kong?

They already blew Kelly's cred with that bit with Kharma, where she was all quivering in fear, "Oh please have mercy and don't hurt me, large scary woman." Your top babyface Diva stands up to the big scary bully girls, like Trish did with Victoria, or, a few years later, Christy did with Trish. That whole feud was a prolonged "Christy's going to be demolished, but she's standing up for herself even knowing she'll be demolished."

But then, Kelly's only Champion because of Layla's injury.

Kelly got the title because she is popular amongst the fans....Layla was n't getting shit..continue to live in denial. Their was OBVIOUSLY going to be a huge program between Kong and Kelly...so she was going to get the title regardless.

People can hate all they want but they have been prepping kelly for the title for some time now...it was damn obvious.

kelly is a slut, horrid gimmick, the female cena, poster girl for the divas.

wow, Layla herself even said she was injured on TV when Kharma attacked her (before obv). i think since it's Kelly's first title reign she should have the lengthy one. she needs to have at least three successful title defences for her reign to be worth it. maybe defend a once off against someone else before they bring in Alicia? or she could have a triple threat and also have separate defences against Alicia and Beth. Trish's second, third and fourth reigns were pretty short since she was being used to build up the other girls but her first was quite long to build her up

I can't wait for Layla to come back. I have always liked her. Definitely not the best on the roster, but I think she is a solid mid-card competitor.

Well, if portraying her as a cringing coward is how they prep a babyface for a Championship run, they've completely forgotten how to prep their babyfaces. Alicia and whichever Bella that was acted more like babyfaces with Kharma than Kelly did.

Now, if they were marketing Kelly as a heel, being cowardly would work for her. Heel Champions can be cowardly. Face Champions, however...

You have underdogs that overcome the odds...but why not have a face who is completely aware that she isn't the best, the modest face, the face who tries and tries and succeed. I mean underdogs have a little fighting spirit in them, she'll just be one who is aware that at any second her reign could come to an end...but she tries.

AND there had to be an angle, Kelly wasn't going to be scared of Kong for no reason. I mean you can have a 4 foot man with a puppy in his hand and completely freak out...why? because that 4 foot man with the puppy has some shit on you, a deep seeded secret maybe.

The angle never came to fruitacion so we'll never know...but they grooming her for some time now to be champ and the most over female on the roster, regardless of HOW they did it.....that was clearly the plan all along.

It's a lousy approach. Christy was modest, the underdog, tried and tried to overcome the odds against Trish, knew Trish was going to obliterate her. After all, (this being during Trish's monster heel run where she was destroying the Divas one by one), if Victoria, Lita, and Molly couldn't stop her, what chance did Christy have? Nevertheless, she stood her ground despite several assualts. And, of course, Trish obliterated her in the end. But, refusing to back down, refusing to cower, is what made Christy a stronger babyface than Kelly is, now.

And, since Kelly is desperately in need of credibility as Champion, making her look that weak didn't help.

Of course, if Mickie were still there, we know who would have taken down Kharma in the end. She did the "one who finally ends the streak and beats the unbeatable" thing three times, with Trish, Victoria, and Beth. It was like that was her main job.

Perceval, Kong wasn't brought in to bring more focus to the division, she was brought in to give more ratings to the women without them having to do the work themselves and make decent fueds/. etc.

If Kelly's matches were electrifying the fans, why would they have needed Kharma to help the ratings? Do you really think all they were planning on doing was just have Kharma show up at the end of every Diva match and destroy everybody?

No, there was a storyline in mind. It was all leading to something, a huge showdown for the Championship, and it was obvious who the babyface who would finally beat the unbeatable was going to be. Hell, what was going to happen was obvious from the moment Kharma was signed. It was even touched on when they did the scene writing her out because of her pregnancy, who steps up front when Kharma comes to the ring, only to have Kharma break down.

Beth is the only one who looks like she belongs in that ring with her. And, that's who Kharma was brought in to feud with, to be the Victoria to Beth's Trish.

You'll notice you don't see Beth on TV much, these days. That's because these skin and bone girls wouldn't be believable taking her on. The Glamazon just looks too physically large, muscular, and dominant next to them. It's not believable for Kelly or the Bellas to do anything against her besides be squashed like bugs.

She was a big muscular woman surrounded by all these other big muscular women. She didn't look overly dominant, at all, just one of the girls. The small, petite one of the six there was Mickie James.

Beth didn't get bigger, since. The girls around her just got smaller.

But let's look at what changed behind the scenes. Lita, Trish Stratus, Molly Holly, Torrie Wilson, Jazz, Victoria, Gail Kim, Mickie James, and Beth Phoenix were all signed by Jim Ross, and, except for Beth, had training from Fit Finlay (who trained C. M. Punk). Now, it's entirely Johnny Ace calling the shots with the Divas.

Back then, having just passable wrestling skills wasn't nearly good enough. When Finlay came in, he said "Let's really make something out of this," and trained them like the guys. JR knew what to scout for, and Finley made them wrestlers. Cena's STFU is a modified version of the STF that Jazz and Trish used to do. Yes, Angle and Triple H were tapping out to a move we used to see in Diva matches.

I know what some of you will say: But, skin and bone girls who can't really wrestle are what the fans want in the ring competing for the Championship. If that's true, though, how did Diva matches go from stealing the show in those years to "bathroom break," now? "Bathroom break" is, unless I'm misunderstanding the term, not an indication that Kelly vs Brie was loved by the fans.

they did the same thing with Aloisa. She was a big drasw, because of her size, like Kong. She was a terrible wrestler but still would make fans want to see more.
