Still miffed about the Netflix price hike? Walmart has you covered. The world’s largest retailer officially entered the streaming business on Tuesday, via their Walmart.com site, reports the Associated Press. Viewers can now watch new releases the same day they come out on DVD, on almost any device with internet access. This news comes two weeks after roughly 24.6 million Netflix users received an email that announced the separation of their DVD rental and streaming services, raising prices for users who still wish to use both. Walmart purchased streaming service Vudu.com 18 months ago, and the new site now offer 20,000 titles ranging in price from $1 to $5.99 for rentals, and $4.99 and up for purchases.
Though Walmart is on the hunt for some Netflix business, their pay-as-you-go service is more similar to Apple’s iTunes than Netflix or Hulu, which both offer monthly subscriptions. Walmart had previously offered a DVD-by-mail service, but they ended the program in 2005 due to the intense competition from Netflix. ----------------------------------------- Do you think they will do well in the competitive market?
Would you try their streaming service? | |
