What do think? now hear this first It may of been a little degrading to the womens divison and we may of had some bad ones come out of that diva search such as Ashley but we did get some good ones that became great diva wrestlers such as Michelle Mccool,Candice Michelle,Joy Giovanni,Layla El,Christy Hemme,Maryse Outllet,Eve Torres and Milena Roucka. So maybe it was good thing after all because if we never had it we would never seen any of these divas now.

short term it was a horrible idea but here is something Molly Holly said in her shoot interview (paraphrasing a little):
"people would come up to me and assume I would hate these girls but they forget I'd already been through the same thing with the Nitro Girls. I look at Stacy Keibler, she's a star, people pay money to see her so maybe they'd be able to find a new star like Stacy and put buts in the seats, and then I could make more money"
long term the Diva Search contestants that became good wrestlers include Michelle McCool, Layla, Maryse (in her earlier days), Eve, Tiffany and Christy Hemme was doing quite well until she retired. i liked Maria as well and i'm sure a few people paid to see her.
at least these days that kind of thing wouldn't happen. they do sign models a lot but they train them down in FCW first. and the ones that wouldn't be cut out to be divas would be weeded out immediately. the likes of Elisabeth Rouaffer, Amy Weber, Lauren Jones, Rochelle Lowen and many others couldn't handle the training or the backstage attitude all ended up leaving very soon

There were some gems in that contest -- some girls with star power who were able to connect with their fans.
So, was it worth it? I say yes.
I agree with Vix: the concept wasn't that great.

I think it had its good and bad points.
I really like McCool and Layla.
Candice was decent for a couple months, Maryse [and Eve...] are also decent.
Still I would say it was more negative than positive.

i agree with the above stuff. Even though the contestant was flawed and considered degrading to the female wrestlers....everyone has to start somewhere. And over the year we have had a great wrestler out of McCool and very capable ones in the likes of Layla, Eve, Tiffany etcnetc

Like most people, I think the Diva Search was both good and bad. I think for fans of true women's wrestling, it was a terrible terrible idea. It took the focus off of wrestling and put it on marketability and looks. Although I wasn't a fan, it was probably a good business decision.
I think out of the Diva Search, we got a couple of good women, and a few decent ones. Christy, Maria, and Michelle all came out of 2004. Michelle, in my opinion, turned out to be one of the best women in the division. Christy and Maria were both decent. Out of 2005 we got Kristal Marshall and Ashley, both blah at best. Layla was the highlight from 2006, while Maryse and Rosa are both blah. Eve was the best that came out of 2007, and other than Tiffany and Lena Yada, nothing at all is even rememberable.
I think the diva season of NXT was a much better concept. It would have been much much more popular is they would have signed some talented women from the indy scene instead of just bringing up all of the women from FCW.

I think yes and no; I definitely think that while the DS girls were training they should have either been kept off tv and sent to FCW, or they should have had minimal screen time with just backstage segments...like Amy Weber and Joy for example. They had a very entertaining feud in my opinion, mixing with the main event guys and without taking up too much time.
But other than that feud, those couple of years after Gail, Nidia and Jazz were released and Molly left and we were stuck with bikini contests and talent shows were ridiculous.
While Maryse and LayCool are three of my favourite divas of the past 5 years, I'm not sure they completely justify those horrible years of 'wrestling' we had to endure. Maryse and McCool weren't even around for most of that. I'm glad we also got Eve, Christy, and for a short time, Tiffany but on the whole I don't think any of them were utilised in the right way.
Also for the record, I like Amy Weber! I was sad when she quit I think there's an actual wrestling match between her and Joy somewhere which they did for a dvd.

Actually Yes. Amy Weber was never going to be a wrestler, that was clear from day one.
But she was fun to watch had the best mic skills from all the women to ever come from the diva search, she had character, she had spunk. If she ever said I want to be a wrestler, she would have been the complete package. Because she outshined every other woman to come out the diva search in all the other places.
She helped made Joy Giovanni in the super over babyface. She managed to take over the top Heel spot from Dawn Marie (who was top heel for like forever on SD). She had it going on and IMO the biggest loss when it comes to released DS girls, because she could be good and WWE knew that because once she quit, Shane McMahon personally called her and asked her to come back.

She was actually training, I remember her saying that her and Joy were meant to be having a match at the upcoming pay-per-view (I think it may have ben No Way Out). But then she got released and it got replaced with that ridiculous diva talent contest with Lauren Jones and Rochelle.

^You can see clips from a match they had in their dvd...I haven't seen it, and it looks pretty bad based on that video, but I think it proves that they were meant to have a match.
Anyway, she probably didn't have the passion for it since she got quit so easily and didn't just switch brands, but I thought that she had amazing potential.

She was actually training for that specific match. Not to be a full time wrestler. she said so herself. She didn't want to be a full time wrestler, but if their was a moment where she had to wrestle to progress a storyline, she would.
I loved her IMO the best thing to come out of the Diva search

That probably would have got her over even more as well. I think fans always get more into the match when the female's not usually a wrestler (eg Stephanie McMahon, Trish in 2000, Melina and Michelle McCool back when they debuted, Cherry...)
Glad to see somebody else who was a fan

lol no probs.
The rest were training though, lauren Jones did say she and the other girls (Joy, Michelle, Torrie, Dawn, Hiroko, Rochelle) used to train and undertaker used to look on and give them advice.
But they never got a chance to wrestle. Aside from Hiroko and Michelle.

I disagree with practically everything but it is what it is.
You like Amy Weber and I like Michelle McCool.
One's most memorable moment was telling Carmella off and the others was winning the Women's Title or unifying the Women's and Divas Titles..
As much as I liked the Diss the Diva segment I'll take the later anyday.

Actually AMy's most memorable moment was her entire feud with Joy.
Every segment, every mic time they got was hilarious. THey main evented. they worked with Big Show, JBL, Kurt Angle, they had it going on and was the best feud since the introduction of the Diva Search girls.
Have a look for yourself:
aahh it was like watching Trish-Stephanie & Trish-Lita all over again. No wrestling matches just segments segments segments leading to a match.
If Amy Never quit, Amy vs. Joy was going to be a horrible match, but the fans wouldn't give a shit. It would have been remembered like Trish vs. Stephanie...technically the most horrible match but the fans just loved it and was into it...which made it amazing.

Oh and guess what she was a Heel....and yet i don't hate her hhhmmmm. Guess her Heel character wasn't a reason after all
