Oh well. Not really a surprise. Its about time he retired. I reckon WWE should set up a Career vs Career match between Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio at the next Wrestlemania to act as a platform for Mysterio to leave.

Did he ever have surgery on that knee, which was bothering him like two years ago?

The Mysterio of 1995-2006 was great, one of the most entertaining in ring to watch. He's only a shadow of his former self now, though.

Morrison should look at Mysterio today and re-think his insistence about not changing his own style, at all. HBK managed to stay great for years by being selective about how he used his high spots. They were always very carefully placed to make the most impact during the story being told in the ring, rather than Morrison's approach of spot after spot after spot. Morrison is just going to keep getting put on the shelf if he doesn't space those out a little more.

i agree with Silva although Morrison more then likely will become a little injury prone spot monkey...but he has only really been injured the one time

Another example of the long term consequences of overdoing the spots: Jeff Hardy.

JoMo fans keep calling him the Next Shawn Michaels, but he's going to have to improve, a lot, to be worthy of that. The recurring criticism of JoMo, that he looks more like he's performing than fighting, is true. Doing a lot of acrobatic spots just for the sake of doing a lot of acrobatic spots doesn't make a Shawn Michaels. You're supposed to look like you're fighting, not doing X-Treme Gymnastics.

But, look at the classic HBK matches over the years... People loved the strategically placed spots, but did anyone complain that he didn't do enough of them in a classic match? Did you ever hear anyone say "Yeah, great match, but he should have jumped around more"?

No, keeping them carefully placed not only made Shawn last longer, but made the matches better. Even the kip ups were perfectly timed to not only work best within the story being told in the ring, but to get the maximum crowd reaction. Whenever Shawn did one of his spots, it meant something key in the match.

If JoMo is just relying on spot after spot after spot to cover a lack of ability, otherwise, then he needs to work on where he's lacking. Otherwise, he's not only going to have a shorter career, but he'll never reach that top position he wants.
