What's interesting about Disney theme park-inspired film adaptations are
that the goal is to bring the viewers into the parks. So, when Disney
makes a new Pirates of the Caribbean or Haunted Mansion, they hope the
boxoffice is big enough that they're create new lifelong Disneyworld or
Disneyland fans.
I chuckle as I report to you that Buena Vista is
working on a feature version of the Matterhorn rollercoaster ride, also
known as the Matterhorn Bobsleds, which has been part of Disneyland's
Fantasyland section since 1959. It never works, which is why I find this
hilarious, although the modern version at Disneyworld's Animal Kingdom
is pretty intense.
Anyways, the studio has hired Jason Dean Hall
to write a script for the project, which has a working title of The
Hill. The idea is to do a thrilling, fast-paced movie centering on five
young adventure seekers who, for mysterious reasons, are called to the
top of the mountain and encounter a Yetis on the journey down. There's
said to be a supernatural twist.
