If you haven’t listened to the latest Women Of Wrestling Podcast, do so. Not only is there close to an hour with Kc Spinelli talking about her time on reality shows This Wrestling Life and World Of Hurt – with some insight into training with Lance Storm and Rowdy Roddy Piper – there is also about 30 minutes with SHIMMER promoter Dave Prazak, who points out some of the big success stories of the most recent tapings – results of which you can find here and here. One of the names he jumps to mention is one Mia Yim.

With just two years of experience under her belt, Yim has been busy. As well as valeting in Ring Of Honor and Combat Zone Wrestling, the 22-year old Californian has wrestled in numerous promotions across the US such as Jersey All Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Respect, and Maryland Championship Wrestling, to name a few.

In addition, she has also completed a number of tours of Japan, wrestling for Universal Women’s Pro Wrestling REINA, taking on the likes of Hiroyo Matsumoto, Hailey Hatred and Manami Toyota, learning more about the joshi style and incorporating that into her repertoire of strong kicks and sudden attacks. It was because of this acquired knowledge that she was chosen to be Kana‘s opponent on her debut to SHIMMER earlier this month.

Our match today features Yim in a match closer to home for her at Real Championship Wrestling from Baltimore, MD on April 23 of this year. The scheduled match was meant to be Mia taking on then-SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles, though the Australian had to bow out due to a shoulder injury that she suffered just four days previously, and is still nagging her, 6 months on. As a result, the match was changed – instead of Eagles, Mia Yim would face another former SHIMMER Champion in the “Queen of Wrestling” Sara Del Rey.

What did you think of the match?

I liked this match. It was a really strong showing from SDR. It wasn't one of Mia's best matches. Both of the submissions she put SDR in, didn't look like she had the best hold, so I wasn't really buying it.

However, after seeing Mia Yim with Shimmer this month, she has grown leaps and bounds. Working in Japan has done her so well. She is turning out to be a fantastic wrestler.

Yeah I like her a lot as well.

A lot of her matches are actually on youtube so I can actually watch them!

I might post some more of her matches.

Sara Del Rey is an absolute beast in the best possible way. Makes you realise just how watered down a lot of mainstream womens wrestling is

I could not agree more. I think there are a few women in WWE/TNA that can really wrestle if given the opportunity. But as a general rule, the mainstream women's wrestling is just lack luster.

In TNA:

Gail, Winter, Sarita are the most versatile imo.

ODB, Jacqueline, Tara, Mickie have adopted more of a brawling style.

Brooke, Rosita, Madison are improving.

In WWE:

DOD are the best overall in-ring wrestlers... not very charismatic.

Eve is athletic and improving... but she's still not someone I want to watch against the likes of Beth or Nattie.

The rest suck...

I would agree with all of these with adding Angelina Love to the most versatile group for TNA. I have always thought she was one of the best that TNA has had. For WWE, Beth and Nattie are the best, hands down. There really isn't anyone that can really compete with either. Outside of those two, I would say that AJ, Eve and Layla are probably the next best (as awkward as that sounds). They have improved a lot in the ring and are at least decent to watch matches.

I completely forgot about Angelina. lol

I left out Layla from any category because I don't remember how she performs in the ring. It's been a while!

I'd think that's a pretty fair assessment of both rosters. I think AJs got a lot of potential but Laylas always been a bit meh to me. TNA definitely have the stronger roster of talent.
