Welcome to Diva Dirt’s This Week in History, where each week we’ll take a look back at some of the most memorable moments in women’s wrestling from years gone by.
So, join us in taking a trip down memory lane…
November 11th, 2002 | A week after being attacked by an irate Victoria, Terri Runnels was unwillingly granted a “revenge” Hardcore match by villainous GM Eric Bischoff. Needless to say, Victoria decimated Terri, her anger fueled by Terri’s blonde-and-busty resemblance to Trish Stratus. When Victoria pulled out a ladder to use on Terri, Trish had seen enough, coming to the ring and brawling with Victoria until the officials pried them apart.
November 7th, 2004 | Dissatisfied with the state of the division and her career, Trinity issued an open challenge to any Knockout to face her at 2004′s Victory Road. Jacqueline answered the call, marking her debut in TNA in what was the first ever Knockouts match on a TNA Pay-Per-View (excluding the weekly PPV shows in their early days). Jacqueline fought hard, as she is wont to do, but outside interference helped Trinity claim the victory.
November 8th, 2004 | The Highlight Reel and its host Chris Jericho often brought foes face-to-face to settle their differences. Lita and Trish Stratus‘s highly personal feud certainly called for an exchange of words, and ahead of their Women’s Title match at Survivor Series, Trish was happy to oblige with a barrage of insults. Their exchange was cut short, though, when Gene “baby killer” Snitsky arrived to intimidate Lita, punt a baby doll into the crowd and generally be a Class A weirdo.
November 6th, 2006 | When Lita defended her Women’s Title against a one-armed Mickie James, it marked the second time she competed in such a match, her opponent the first time being John Cena. Mickie was not pleased with this stipulation, but fought valiantly with her left arm tied behind her back. As it turned out, though, two arms were better than one, and Lita defeated Mickie, retaining her Women’s Title.
November 11th, 2007 | At 2007′s Genesis PPV, Gail Kim put her Knockouts Title on the line against three women: Angelina Love, ODB and Roxxi Laveaux. It was a match that took everything out of each competitor, featuring many high-risk maneuvers and heavy hits, each Knockout playing to her strengths. In the end, Gail Kim’s strategy won out and she stood triumphant, pinning ODB and escaping with the Knockouts Title still in her grasp.
November 7th, 2010 | To say that the feud between Tara and Mickie James was heated is an understatement. The two hated each other so much that when it came time for them to go one-on-one at 2010′s Turning Point, they couldn’t even seem to keep their fight inside the ring. The action spilled outside, and got increasingly out of control until the referee ordered a double disqualification. They wouldn’t let a bit of persistent bell-ringing stop their brawl, though, and they carried on, fighting tenaciously all the while. It took several men to keep them apart. Those men probably feared that if they couldn’t, the fight would last the whole show. Now that’s a PPV we’d pay good money to see!
