Exclusive: Sara Del Rey Says Joining WWE is Her “Main Focus and Goal”

Having ruled over the independent scene in North America for the past several years, Sara Del Rey is looking for a new challenge — WWE.

Sara, who has earned her moniker as “Queen of Wrestling” through her work in promotions like SHIMMER, CHIKARA and ROH, says that the one thing that’s eluded her is a WWE contract, but she’s making it her “main focus and goal” to join the professional wrestling juggernaut.

Speaking to us exclusively on DD360 last night, Sara said: “I haven’t been shy about saying that’s my next career goal [joining WWE]. I’ve been doing this nearly 11 years now and I just feel like that would be a very new, interesting challenge for me to be there. I’d love to be there and be a part of it. I think it’s awesome that the fans want to see it too. With the way storylines are going in WWE right now for the women, I think it’d be great. I’d fit in well with what’s going on now.”

“That’s my main focus and goal right now — just to get a shot [at WWE]. I’ve never done it. I don’t think I’ll be wrestling the rest of my life, so I’d like to do it before my wrestling career is over, so that’s my main my focus for the rest of 2011 and 2012.”

Sara is further probed about how she thinks she’d cope working within the confines of WWE’s restrictive Divas division — riddled by lack of time on TV, character development and storylines — issues which, as has been well documented by former Divas such as Gail Kim, can be extremely frustrating. Sara feels that working within those boundaries would be a challenge in itself, but it’s a challenge she’s ready to rise to. Earlier this year, WWE signed Sara’s former ROH stablemates, Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero, known collectively as the Kings of Wrestling.

One can only hope. It's time for talent like Sara to get their chance. She so damn talented.

I've known she's had Formspring for a while. Don't know how many people here know.

I know she's said that eventually she wanted to be in WWE. However, she hasn't said until now that joining WWE was next in line for her.
