Will Inaugural Australian Academy Awards Predict Oscars? AACTA1

http://www.goldderby.com/films/news/2405/australian-academy-awards-predict-oscars-news-246809753.html

Nominations for the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) international awards were announced by Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver ("Animal Kingdom") at Saturday's G'Day USA Black Tie Gala in Los Angeles.

The AACTA Awards were established last year to replace the AFI Awards, which have been honoring the best of Australian cinema since 1958. With the addition of five new international categories (Picture, Actor, Actress, Director and Screenplay), the AACTA is positioning itself as an alternative to BAFTA as a bellwether for the Oscars.

The AACTA notes that a "jury of pre-eminent Australian screen practitioners from a cross-section of crafts and with a wealth of local and international experience has selected the AACTA International Award nominees and winners."

AACTA President Geoffrey Rush will reveal the winners at a special AACTA International Awards Event held in association with Australians in Film in Los Angeles on Jan. 27. That's more than two weeks before the BAFTAs and a month ahead of the Oscars.

I don't know if they will pick the correct winners as the Oscars but they certainly have an opportunity to considering they nominated the front runners of most awards.

The only thing is they totally snubbed The Help and Viola Davis is a VERY likely winner of the Oscar for Best Actress [if not her then I would think Meryl].
