Speculation and rumors about the Iron Wolf Project website can finally
be put to rest now that Treyarch has given an official word.
Earlier this week an official tweet by Treyarch Design Director David
Vonderhaar gave hopeful players some clarity on the rumours revolving
around a mysterious website that appeared online sometime ago, claiming
to be "official", stating that the next game would be called Call of
Duty: Iron Wolf.
On February 4th, Vonderhaar tweeted, saying:
"Beware
that ironwolfproject.com is not affiliated with Treyarch or Call of
Duty. Don't give this guy your email address. Please RT."
The
statement comes after several of the web's most popular gaming websites
have themselves shared opinions on the so-called 'Iron Wolf project',
with many of them agreeing that the website could not have possibly been
a Treyarch production due to it's lack of professionalism and poor
attention to detail. Several things appeared out of the ordinary,
including the fact that the last three Call of Duty games have been
announced during May, just before the yearly E3 show. Being 'announced'
in December was enough for some people to investigate, and it would
appear as if plenty of cracks have since shown in the fake website, such
as the creators misspelling Treyarch as 'Treyerch'.
It has not
yet been revealed as to whether Activision or Treyarch will take action
on this matter, but many assume that the website was intended to be
fan-made and therefore nothing more than a stop-gap between 2010's
offering Call of Duty: Black Ops, and November's yearly release for fans
of Treyarch.
We at Digital Warfare strongly suggest however that
you take your personal security seriously. Even though the website is
now being called 'fan-made', it was asking for emails long before this
confirmation, when they were still pretending to be Treyarch. Unless you
know or trust the website (or any fan-made website for that matter), do
not give your details away. Remember, if it seems fake, it probably is.
