| This was definitely a lot more work than I thought it would be. I had trouble figuring out who would make the cut and who would be an honorable mention. Then I tried figuring out who would be an honorable mention and not be listed at all, since I didn’t want an encyclopedia of tag wrestling. The honorable mentions and numbers 4 and 5 were close calls, with 4 and 5 being tighter than a virgin on prom night. Numbers 3 and 2 also gave me some difficulty, but I had no problems figuring out who number 1 was. Without further ado, here’s my list:
Honorable Mention(s):
Brisco Brothers – Probably one of the more overlooked teams. The Brisco Brothers had a nice amateur wrestling portfolio held over 20 tag titles through 13 years, with both also having a run with the NWA World Championship when it meant something. Also of note, they introduced some guy named Terry Bollea to Hiro Matsuda. I think that’s as golden as any tag title.
HM: Midnight Express/Rock ‘N’ Roll Express – It’s hard not to list one of these teams without mentioning the other, thanks in part to their legendary feud. Both teams held gold from many different promotions, and should be given some credit for the boom wrestling had in the 80s.
----- Serial's Real Five:
5. The Fabulous Freebirds – Groundbreaking for their use of rock ‘n’ roll as their entrance music, the “greatest rock ‘n’ roll band of all time” was also famous for creating the “Freebird Rule” which allowed any two of the three members to defend their tag titles on any given night. The Freebirds won countless tag titles in many different promotions and are definitely one of the most prominent teams of all time.
4. The Hart Foundation – Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart were a fantastic combination and a true example of what tag team wrestling is all about. Hart was the calculated technical wrestler while Neidhart was the wild and crazy brawler. Bret was small while Jim was big. The Anvil was a transplanted ex-footballer while Bret had wrestling in his blood. The Hart Foundation rarely won outright, and often lost or had some kind of no-contest, even as champs. Yet, even without having a great win/loss record, the two remained elite due to their talent.
3. Steiner Brothers – One of the most influential teams to ever step into the squared circle. The fan favorites were teamwork personified. Having competed all around the globe, the duo was very familiar with holding tag team gold. The combination of Scott’s agility and Rick’s power, along with their amateur wrestling foundations, made them one of the most respected tag teams in their day.
2. Dudley Boyz/ Team 3-D – Perhaps the most decorated tag team of all time, the pair has held gold in all major promotions from America and Japan. Going through 20 tag title runs and putting their opponents through countless tables, the duo is definitely one of the best tag teams ever.
1. Legion of Doom - LoD definitely knew how to market themselves with the face paint and spiked armor, which made them easily recognizable. Along with their innovative concept, the Road Warriors brought talent, charisma, and chemistry. Together they won countless world tag team titles and have an unmatched reputation. They are without a doubt one of the very best tag teams of all time.

| In no order;
Hardy Boys Dudley Boys E&C Hart Foundation British Bulldogs
As good as teams like MNM, RVD/Booker T, Londrick/ Hart Dynasty were, they haven't achieved nowhere near the success/recognition of these teams. | |
