Subject: Torrie Wilson to take part in WM 28!!!!! Wed 14 Mar 2012, 9:22 pm
Torrie Wilson has just confirmed exclusively to WWE.com that she and her beau - New York Yankees All-Star third baseman and Miami native Alex Rodriguez - will be attending all the festivities in Miami for WrestleManiaweekend!
The former WWE Diva plans on showing "A-Rod" why the spectacle of The Show of Shows is the place to be from March 30 through April 1, culminating with the epic once-in-a-lifetime clash between The Rock and John Cena.
Wilson also wanted to tell the WWE Universe to stayed tuned to her Twitter account, @Torrie11 all WrestleMania weekend, as she'll be tweeting behind-the-scenes photos as well from her VIP ringside seats during the show.
WrestleMania weekend always brings out many celebrities and WWE Alumni who enjoy coming “home” at least once a year to take in The Show of Shows. Now, the New York Yankees third baseball will experience first hand with the WWE Universe.

Torrie is a Legend....I mean....Michelle McCool tried to copy her theme song...yet she could never reach Torrie's popularity.
Torrie is certainly one of those women who Changed the position for women in Wrestling and had huge success.

I don't remember quoting Kevin's post and not putting in my own two cents. I think I was going to say something in rebuttal, but I don't know.
I remember when pics came out of Alex and Torrie at a pool, people were complaining that Alex had bigger tits than Torrie, lol.

Well, if she helped change the position of women in pro wrestling; isn't it fair to ask if it was a change for the better or worse?
I honestly see how it was for the better. Women, particularly in WWE, where they're probably most recognizable, don't have much of a role. Past the sexy attire and makeup, what substance is there to the Divas? In my view, Vickie Guerrero, a non-wrestler personality, is the most interesting on-screen female persona in the entire company. Hell, she's even more relevant than their own female champ: Beth Phoenix.

I don't know if divas ever existed for substance. SHIMMER is a wonderful organization that fills a niche, but how much of an audience really is that? They're nice to look at, but can a legitimate on-screen female persona sell tickets and "put butts in seats?" Trish was extremely popular, but she was also easy on the eyes. I don't know how many people pay to see Vickie, or worse how many people don't pay, because they don't wanna see Vickie?

It was for the Better, She was more than just a pretty face. She was used to help sell WWE merchandise. Remember her and Stacey Kiebleer being used to sell Smackdown vs. Raw? They had their own commercial. No WWE Diva to this day has been used to sell any WWE Video Games. She was the poster Girl for The Great American bash and was being used heavily to promote that PPV. I think because of that she's been put on more WWE PPV poster more than any other WWE Diva in history. So she sold more than just Masturbation pictures....She was selling PPV's.
Sunny, Stacy and Torrie are three girls who changed the position for women not in the ring.....but how they were used, and what all they could do. Sunny was one of the first women ever to do commentary. Now how many women do commentary during divas matches on TV to further feuds?
They also proved it's not just about having a pretty face.....because many pretty faces have come and gone....yet none have been able to reach even close to what those three women (Debra and Ms. Elizabeth too.....but they were always mainly used as Valets)

That's just it. Trish was popular and easy on the eyes, but she and others had interesting characters which made them more watchable. Isn't it odd that now in a PG era it's even more about looks than it has been in the past? Vince sees the women's division as pointless, yet he keeps it around because of "a certain demographic." They're just there! Who's the last Diva that you were actually invested in for a reason other than her looks? Hell, how many people actually give a rat's ass about anyone in the company today?

Okay, she was on the poster for a ppv and in a commercial for a video game. So what! Kelly and Eve promote WWE games for WWE, does that mean people are more interested in her because of that? Is there a moment in Torrie's career that defines her career? Look, I know looks are important in WWE, but those who stand out have character depth. Both men and women. Compare Daniel Bryan to Tyler Sucks. Compare Eve to Tamina. Now, if you're someone who uses WWE as a platform for Hollywood, then being employed by WWE is a smart idea. If you're about being a successful wrestler, WWE isn't the best place to go to (if you're a woman.)

She wasn't "A" PPV poster. Actually up until her move to Raw, she has been the poster girl for the great American bash every year. Sure it was because she was a hot Girl in a Red White and Blue bikini....but she was the centerpiece of the Adds and in the Poster for the PPV.
Did Kelly and Eve Promote WWE Video games on this Capacity? Keep in mind, this was WWE's first ever release of the Smackdown vs Raw Series and to have two women be the centerfold and used in the commercial is a lot. I didn't see Eve and Kelly Kelly being in any commercial to promote WWE "12".
I'm just saying, Girls Like Torrie, Stacy and Sunny did more than just photoshoots for WWE.com. They were used in the capacity.....women where not regularly used. It's more than just being a pretty face, BB, The Kat, Terri Runnels, those were women who were stunning, but hasn't become the phenom Torrie, Stacy and Sunny were, Molly Holly, Ivory, Jacqueline....amazing wrestlers.....but still not on the level of popularity Trish and Lita are.
The fans found something in these women that set them apart, that made them care.....more so than just their pretty faces.....it was a bonus that they were hot....but it was more than just that.

Well, no one's going to promote video games like that for WWE as long as WWE is PG.
You say they did more than photo shoots, but what did they do that was so earth-shattering?
I'm not saying they weren't valuable assets to the company but, let's not act like it was the first time a woman has ever been in a WWE ad.
I just don't see how the foundation was changed by her (and the others you mentioned.)

Male wrestlers are STILL used in Adds...even AFTER they went PG so...don't see it as a valid arguement, didn't say they needed to sex it up.
Cerebral Ass-assin wrote:

Well, seen as an equal asset to the company like their fellow male co-workers. Torrie's return would seem important after she's been gone, Stacy's return would seem important....Beth or kelly Kelly's comebacks? Not so much. I've said what they did, PPV posters, WWE never put Sunny on a PPV poster to promote it, WWE never put Trish as the center of attention on a PPV poster, WWE never put Sable or Moolah or Chyna as the main wrestler on a PPV poster... sure 101 Divas appeared in the background...but how Many were dead center? Torrie's the only girl.
Trish was never used for a WWE video game commercial, Lita was never used as the focus to promote video games, Sable, Moolah, Chyna...non were put in that position before.
Before Sunny, no woman in wrestling did commentary to promote their guys...at one point Sunny just came out to do commentary for random matches, Sunny did interviews to promote her wrestlers....Debra, Ms. Elizabeth, Marlena....all had the same position as Sunny, but were never used like she was.

Maybe you are looking for something BIGGER, but every accomplishment in life starts with the little things, sure they didn't headline a PPV and won a multitude of championships, but they had a helping hand in the little ways women were used in wrestling.
Sure, a good amount of Divas were in promo's promoting WWE games & PPV's, sure a good amount of Divas were tossed in WWE posters.
But when they were, they were put to fill in a void, in the background rarely featured. To fill in an empty space....Stacy and Torrie on the other hand, proved they could be as useful as their male co-workers and be the main focus in the PPV posters and the Video Game commercial. They weren't there to fill a void...no they were there to be the tool used to promote the PPV or Video game.
SOo what did they do? proved that they could be used promotion wise equally to the male wrestlers. THAT is what they did. It may not seem that much to you, but in a male dominated form of entertainment, it is a privilage to be put in that position as woman, because it is rarely done by women in the entire company.
