The following is from the UK's Daily Record:
ONE of Scotland’s
top wrestling stars is at the centre of a major investigation into
allegations of sex abuse against children.
Former British heavyweight champion Colin McKay, 35, known as The Highlander, was arrested at his home on indecency charges.
It follows a separate court appearance earlier this month on other charges of abuse.
On
that occasion McKay, 35, was charged with four counts of indecent
communications with teenagers aged from 13 to 16 – thought to be text
messages and phone calls.
He was also charged with two counts of causing children aged between 13 and 16 to take part in sexual activity.
McKay,
who is also a former tag team champion, appeared in private before
Sheriff Thomas Millar at Hamilton Sheriff Court on April 5.
He made no plea and the case was continued for further examination.
Conditions
imposed as he was given bail mean McKay is not allowed unsupervised
contact with under-16s and must not contact four of his alleged victims –
all teenage boys.
He has also been banned from coaching under-16s in wrestling or any other sport and was banned from accessing the internet.
Security guard McKay was rearrested on Friday in relation to further allegations and will appear at court in Hamilton tomorrow.
McKay,
from East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, was one of Scotland’s top wrestlers
and coaches for more than 20 years until his sudden retirement in
February.
He took up professional wrestling at 16 and ran British
Championship Wrestling as well as the Scottish Professional Wrestling
Academy in East Kilbride.
Four years ago he trained Still Game star Greg Hemphill to become an amateur wrestling referee.
He has also trained WWE stars such as Scot Drew McIntyre, who split last year from his Playboy bunny wife Taryn Terrell.
McKay is thought to have coached hundreds of young wrestlers over the years.
Commenting
on the latest arrest, a Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said: “We can
confirm that a 35-year-old man has been detained and is presently in
police custody in connection with allegations of indecent offences.”
