Lisa “Ivory” Moretti was recently interviewed by RingbellesOnline.com about Stacy “The Kat” Carter using Jerry Lawler, hating the finish to her WM 17 match with Chyna and more. Here are the highlights:
On what caused her to go to the GLOW audition, and why she stuck around: “I went there because my girlfriend Nadine – who was my tag team partner Ashley – was an actress, so she got a call for an audition. So she wanted to drag me over there because we were friends from our cheerleading days… I didn’t know anything about wrestling and didn’t want to get squashed by a bunch of big, huge musclewomen but when I met Mando [Guerrero], he was the guy that turned me on to wrestling because he was so passionate about it.”
On being a Tough Enough trainer: “I wouldn’t have picked Linda Miles [to win Tough Enough 2]. I avidly said that when we had our sit-downs to decide who would stay and who would go – I mean, it was just all up to us, of course – but Linda Miles definitely has great charisma, but I knew she had an ego problem and I outwardly said ‘I will shoot myself in my foot if Linda Miles gets picked,’ because I don’t want to share a locker room with her.”
On standing up Ricky Steamboat at the Cauliflower Alley reunion last month: “I had a date with Ricky Steamboat to go to the pool and have a vodka rocks with him, the the GLOW girls said, ‘We’re all getting together for lunch, you gotta do that,’ and I was like, ‘Ooh, Ricky Steamboat and vodka or all the girls at lunch.’ And I did the girls and lunch because there are more of them and this is the beginning and we’ve all got to stick together… I hoped he would have forgotten, but then later at the banquet he reminded me, and he couldn’t find me. I was like, ‘Oh, man! Did I just blow it!’”
Her opinion of Stacy “Miss Kitty” Carter: “She was a poison. She used her Jerry Lawler card just to get on board and Jerry Lawler was an announcer, so he’s got a lot of push on who he can say great things about and interject about during his two hours on TV and then he’s also privileged to be in on the writers’ meetings. So here you’ve got a person who comes on board that has somebody rooting for them. She snuck her way into an angle with Chyna as the Mini-Me girl; look at all the stuff she got on board with that was already existing without her help – Right To Censor… she [even] got in on the Women’s Title and what did she do with it? Nothing."
On Chyna squashing her at WrestleMania X-Seven: “She was a taker in the ring, not a giver… The only regret I have is that I should have kicked out at WrestleMania. If Mae and Moolah taught me anything, it was, ‘It’s live, do what you want to do.’ And when she lay on me like she did at the very end, I thought, ‘That is so rank’… and then the very next day at lunch, Stone Cold said to me ‘I didn’t like the way she pinned you.’ I said, ‘Me neither!’ “He said, ‘You should have kicked out.’ And I said, ‘That’s what I was thinking!’”

| Yeah I listened to the interview a week or so ago on the site.
I really like Ivory and it was really good.
I also thought that pin was cocky but I didn't know Chyna didn't talk to her about it before the match. :-/
She was spot on about Linda so they should have listened to her..
The Kat did sneak her way in on stuff. I never knew it was probably as a favor to Jerry..

| Ivory does have a bit of an attitude so that stuff about The Kat is likely just what she thinks happened. after all when she had to train women in DSW one day she called all the pretty girls to the front row and shouted "sluts like you all sleep your way to the top" so she's not exactly reliable. in his blogs Jerry Lawler said it was his idea to bring Stacy/The Kat into wrestling so it was probably the creative team wanting to keep him happy. anyone else who's talked about Stacy has always said good things about her | |

| And yet, she's always had nothing but praise for Trish, crediting her as the one who "put it all together and made it happen," regarding the rise of the women from novelty to upper card draw.
She has no gripe with where someone comes from (After all, she always talks about her complete lack of experience when she signed to GLOW), but whether you work to improve. She had the same issue with Chyna that she had with Stacy Keibler & Torrie Wilson in 2001-02: Not working to improve.
And yeah, some of the Diva Search girls griped about Ivory & Jacqueline being harsh. They were intentionally weeding out the girls who were afraid to break a nail. The ones who couldn't handle it quit, which was best for them, because if they thought Jackie and Ivory were rough, that was nothing compared to what would be waiting for them in Raw's Women's locker room. Victoria's term for Diva Search girls was "fresh meat," and she worked as stiff with them as she did with Molly and Trish. Trish commented, at the time, that Diva Search girls should have to do a questionaire, first, with the first question being "What do the initials WWE stand for?" She figured that would weed a lot of them out. Trish smacked Candice so hard in that backstage segment Candice thought her jaw was broken. When they discussed it recently on the Raw Afterbuzz Show, Trish said "Yeah, I smacked the Diva Search out of you." Lita was notoriously rough on them, as Melina would be in later years with the new girls.
So, while the girls who were afraid to break a nail might gripe about Ivory & Jackie, those two were doing them a favor by getting rid of them before they were in the really testing environment. That also tells you something about Candice, Maria, and Michelle, and how much they really wanted it.

| and that makes it okay? in my book if you're a teacher or an authority figure, no matter what you're teaching, you teach and you don't bully. Molly Holly said in her shoot that when she trained the Nitro Girls she appreciated that not all of them came into the company to become wrestlers but were just afraid of losing their jobs so she went easy on them. she said she got a lot of heat from it but she didn't care because that was how she was trained. she said wrestling was fun to her so she wanted to make it fun for them. working stiff on rookies just makes you bitter and unprofessional, like JBL kicking The Miz out of the locker room for getting crumbs on a referee's bag or Bob Holly stiffing Matt Cappotelli for no good reason or when he sandbagged Brock Lesnar and got his neck broken. Kristall Marshall outright said that she felt her trainers didn't want her to get good and didn't want her to improve, despite her being willing to learn how to wrestle. hazing and the whole "paying your dues" is just old fashioned and out dated bullshit that has to stop
i don't know about other wrestling trainers but mine aren't bullies. they aren't soft touches, let me tell you that but they don't teach us to fear their punishment if we mess up. they don't yell in our face and tell us we're good for nothing. ever hear the expression "you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar"? in my book, constant yelling and verbal abuse is the mark of a bad teacher. i say if i was in that situation facing some potential break-a-nail types, i'd just train them anyway and let them experience it. after my first day i had bruises in places i didn't know could get bruised and i couldn't walk on my right leg for three days. and i was only there for 4 hours, and i had a whole week to recover. trust me you can weed out the break-a-nail types pretty quickly.
i understand that some of the veterans were upset and bitter that their spot was being taken but they were shooting the messenger. i'm pretty sure none of those girls (well maybe Carmella) came into WWE with malicious intentions. blame WWE for signing them. i mean, if WWE offered you a huge high paying contract with job security for a few years, how many people would honestly say no? especially if they come from the unreliable jobs of modelling and acting

| Do you think they were being too rough on the kids on Tough Enough ("Miss USA," "Miss 11 Years")? That was one of the things Candice was really enjoying during the Afterbuzz shows. Candice was really set off by the "This isn't Divalicious!" whine. Maria's like that, herself, so I'd expect McCool to be the same way on commentary, especially if she's anything like her husband. As far as Victoria's stiffness, that's the way she works. Best to be ready for that, going in. These women were trained by Fit Finlay, remember, in that British style he and Regal use. Regal describes it as "I'll hit you very hard in very safe places." Carmella was lucky she didn't win Diva Search. Can you imagine how that attitude of hers would have gone over with the vets? I assume Beth, Kelly, and Layla are the ones enforcing this with the Divas, now. Would Kelly screaming at them be considered cruelty? I do have to wonder if the Old School mentality doesn't serve a purpose, though. Hogan agrees with you about it. When he came to TNA, he announced that that Old School mentality in the locker room would be gone. The TNA locker room proceeded to fall into chaos. Coincidence? | |

| again here's a quote i heard before that i keep saying to people who raise these issues to me
"just because that's the way it's done in WWE, doesn't mean that's the way it should be done"

| I love Ivory. I have so much respect for her as a wrestler. From a GLOW girl to a former WWE Women's Champion, she is a role model. She was a fantastic wrestler.
On a side note, anyone that does not regularly listen to the Ringbelle's podcasts....needs to do it. They are almost always really really good. I say almost only because there have been a few guests that I thought were less than entertaining.

| what's your opinion of Ivory's face work in 2003? she was mostly on Heat but i was surprised at how she was as a face since she was such a brilliant heel but i felt her ring work was the best it had ever been, mostly since she was finally getting time for matches and quality opponents
i like the ringbelles podcasts, their one with Kelly Kelly was probably my favourite

| I was a fan of everything Ivory did. She was a much much better heel, but I enjoyed her face work.
Kelly Kelly, Jemma Palmer, and Mickie Knuckles were my least favorite podcasts. I just didn't get into them.
