A couple of days ago I applied to go work in McDonalds. I'm looking for a job and I'm applying everywhere.

They responded today. They told me they liked my application, but that I was too willing to work and that I should apply to a closer restaurant. I applied for a job with flexible hours, and to the closest restaurant. I said more hours than I expected to get because I did not expect them to want me to work for as many hours as I put (50, across 6 days).

Can anyone else think of a reason why they told me to apply to a closer restaurant, when I applied for the closest, and why they would tell me they dont want me because I'm too willing to work?

Idk that seems stupid; you are willing to work so you would think they would appreciate that.

I mean of course you won't get 50 hours but I don't understand why they wouldn't hire you if they liked your application and they themselves can control how many hours you can work for them..

Good luck getting a job though; I also really need to go on an application spree so I can get something..

I've applied for 3 fish factories, a garden centre, a fish and chips shop, an ice cream shop, a bakery/cafe and I'll be contacting McDonalds tomorrow to see if a solution can be found.

Thats 8 in total, and I'm still searching.

I think that was a polite way of saying you're overqualified...I've only seen that happen on tv, but hey, maybe that was it.

I wouldn't want to work for a fast food chain because I've seen how workers get taken advantage of.

If I'm overqualified, that really doesn't say much for McDonalds.

I phoned them up because I didn't understand what they meant. I was told that the store manager was away so the area manager explained that they dont need students and they dont like working round bus timetables. He did say though, if I had not found a job by bthis next week to phone up and theyd see if they could create work for me.

I don't particularly wish to flip burgers all day, but I just need a job, any job.

That sucks this isn't resolved yet.

Hopefully if you don't find work by next week they make due on the offer to help you out with something.

I hope so. What would be really handy is if I get the night shifts I applied for as well, cos that would be an extra £176 a week.

Would you rather work or be in school? I think I'd prefer being in school lol. During the summer a lot of teenagers go looking for jobs.

Id much rather my student loan continued throughout the summer. I'd be getting about £1350 if it did contineu through summer. As it doesn't though, and I need to pay off an overdraft which accumulated throughout the year, for the summer a job is a must.

I get about 6 and a half grand each year to cover rent and food.

Or take out massive loans that will put me in debt the moment I graduate

Most people get student loans here, unless youre from a rediculously rich family. And you only have to pay it back once you earn £20000 or more a year.
