WWE Supershow results July 14, 2012 Tucson, Arizona Report by Sam Martin, PWTorch reader
I sat right behind Sign Guy third row ringside. He was friendly and took a lot of pictures with people. The show felt like a big deal, but ended up just being a go-through-the-motions and "don't hurt yourself because the PPV is tomorrow" type show.
(1) IC champion Christian beat Cody Rhodes to retain the Intercontinental Title. Solid opener. Christian won via Killswitch.
(2) Tensai beat Tyson Kidd. There were a couple of spots where you thought Kidd would steal the win, but Tensai won with his Khali Bomb and splash.
(3) Tamina Snuka beat Natalya with Kaitlyn as special guest referee. Natalya ripped up Sign Guy's "Natalya sucks" poster before the match, lost a hair extension during the match, and got superfly splashed to lose the match.
(4) Damien Sandow beat Alex Riley. Sandow was his intellectual self before the match and cartwheeled in the ring after winning the match.
(5) WWE tag champions Kofi Kingston & R-Truth beat Dolph Ziggler & Jack Swagger (w/Vickie Guerrero) to retain the WWE Tag Titles. The best moment was Zigler hitting the Zig-Zag and winning the Titles only to have Truth's foot on the rope, which was thrown off by Vickie, which the acting ref didn't see. Somehow with no video in the back, you know, because it's a house show, the other ref came out and informed the acting ref of the foot on the rope. And, even though referee's decision was supposed to be final, they re-started the match to have Truth and Kofi hit dual finishers and retain the belts.
(6) World Hvt. champion Sheamus beat Alberto Del Rio to retain the World Heavyweight Title. Ricardo is funny to watch at ringside. Del Rio took a call from his "good friend," Arizona governor Jan Brewer before the match. A nice little "Show Your Papers" chant broke out. The funny thing is that Sheamus is just as "illegal" as Del Rio. Del Rio and Sheamus screwed up the finishing spot, but Sheamus hit the Brogue Kick for the win.
(7) U.S. champion Santino Marella beat William Regal to retain the WWE United States Title. Regal insulted Tucson with the same joke he always uses: "How can I suck, I'm not from Tucson." The bell rang, Regal, the 20 year ring veteran, turned his back to Santino, who loaded up the cobra and beat Regal in what seemed like 10 seconds.
(8) WWE champion C.M. Punk beat Kane and Daniel Bryan in a triple threat match to retain the WWE Title. A.J. did her skip around the ring, and Punk won with a GTS to Brian. The only high spot was Punk diving through the ropes to take out both guys early on. Lots of "Yes!" chants that turned into "No!" chants.
Time for the steel cage main event between Cena and Show with Big Johnny banned from ringside. Earlier in the night, they gave the crowd the chance to vote on whether Johnny would be allowed at ringside or would be banned. I figured that was a way he wouldn't have to show is face. But, People Power was in the house. He threw a fit when it was said he was banned.
(9) John Cena beat Big Show in a Steel Cage match. At one point, Show yelled at the crowd that he couldn't be beat, but I thought he said he likes to eat. He also yelled at someone in the front row, in the corner and I thought I heard him use the word "***" on two occasions. After he hit Cena with the Shhhh Chop, I thought I heard him yell at the same guy, "You wish that was you, huh, freak." You would think he would know saying f-- is the last word he should say, but he made sure everyone heard him the second time he said it. Cena made several attempts to escape, but finally hit the AA for the win.
Post-match, Johnny came down with a chair and got an AA as well. Final sales pitch from WWE to buy the PPV and drive home safe.
Biggest Pops (1) C.M. Punk (2) Cena (3) Sheamus
Biggest Heat (1) Sandow (2) Vickie (3) Johnny | |
