The male-skewing cable network has given script orders to an hourlong dramatic take of the 1996 Academy Award best picture nominee, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Joel and Ethan Coen, the writers, directors and producers behind the William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi and Frances McDormand starrer are on board to executive produce the effort, alongside My Generation's Noah Hawley, who will pen the script. Warren Littlefield is on board to executive produce the effort, which hails from MGM Television and FX Productions.

Fargo, which earned McDormand an Oscar for her leading performance as a pregnant sheriff in the North Dakota town, starred Macy as a simple car salesman who hires two idiots (Buscemi, Peter Stormare) to kidnap his wife in an extortion plot that goes horribly wrong. The Coens won a screenplay Oscar for the feature, which also earned nominations for Macy's supporting turn and direction, among others.

For his part, Hawley has been active this development season, selling a mystery game drama to ABC with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman attached.

At FX, the project joins a development slate that also includes Guillermo del Toro's The Strain, Bronx Warrants and The Bridge.

MGM Television, meanwhile, is also reviving another former big-screen property with Nigel Lythgoe'sFame, which has yet to find a network.

I guess it could work, the other projects sound a tad bit interesting.
