Gail Kim has been ranked #1 on this year’s PWI Female 50.

The list, which ranks the women of wrestling based on their achievements in the past year, cited Gail’s record-breaking Knockouts Title reign as one of the factors the landed her on top of the list.

Following her departure from the WWE to TNA last October, Gail held the Knockouts Title from November until June for a total of 210 days, making her reign the longest in the title’s history.

The full list will be revealed when the publication is made available for download this Thursday. It will hit newsstands later this month.

Pro Wrestling Illustrated has revealed that Gail Kim has been named #1 in the 2012 PWI Female 50. The Female 50 will be available for digital download on Thursday, October 18, at www.pwi-online.com. It will be released on newsstands later this month.

This is the first time Gail Kim has earned this distinction. Prior Female 50 number ones have included Madison Eagles (2011), Michelle McCool (2010), Mickie James (2009), and Awesome Kong (2008).

“Gail Kim held the Knockouts title for 210 days during the evaluation period,” said PWI Senior Writer Dan Murphy. “She also held the Knockouts tag team title, and had a string of successful title defenses against the top women in TNA, including Mickie James, Tara, and Madison Rayne. Our congratulations go out to her.”

Gail Kim is probably one of the best choices in the major two. I had hoped we might get another independent #1, but I should have known it wouldn't happen.

It will be interesting to see how the list plays out. I think it should be a fairly decent list. There aren't very many women on TV to take up the majority of the spots and there has been a big push for independent female promotions.

What's wrong with AJ?.She was the most talked about women of this whole year and her being involved in Storylines with CM Punk,Daniel Bryan and Kane.Closing and Opening Raw and being part of some of The PPV main events how many divas can say they did that this year?

I understand shes made more of an impact than Gail, but for her to top the list over all these talented performers who've won titles and stuff, just seems a little odd.

you have got to remember this list is from like June to June....before AJ even became GM and stuff.....and Gail was KO's champion for about 7 months.

I am expecting Beth to be 2nd

I think Beth has a good shot of being 2nd but I wouldn't be surprised if she got 3rd [and an independent woman *Havok, Cheerleader Melissa, etc* got 2nd].

AJ should Atleast be number 3 or 2.I don't think Beth would be that high since she lost to Nikki Bella and Maria Menudous this year when she was divas champ.

There is no way AJ is in the top 5 she officially became Raw GM on the 1,000th Raw and that was on July 23rd so it won't be included in this year's ranking [next year though she should be higher up].

The rest as dont little to nothing this year and its gonna be kinda hard since most of this year we had 2 min matches.

Yeah not many divas are going to make the list.

Layla should probably make it since even just coming back in late April she won the title and defended it against Beth just before the June deadline at OTL.

AJ also could get a lower spot on the list but I can't see how many more people can get on the list since people like Nattie, Alicia, and Tamina were only pushed for a while before going back to being second, third, or worse best heel/face..

I do not see Nikki Bella making the list at all. Personally, I would be surprised if Kelly Kelly made it as well. Havok will make top 5 for sure. I'm really hoping for Saraya Knight to be in the top 10 this year.

Kelly is going to be in it no matter what.

During the evaluation period June 2011 to June 2012 she was Divas Champion and stayed Divas Champion until October [had 2 successful title defenses against Beth].

Even when she lost the title she stayed around for the most part.

She got a TLC Divas Title Match and was in the WM 28 tag team match where she was victorious.

All of those stats for a diva in WWE pretty much guarantees that she gets a top 25 spot if not higher..

Full PWI Female 50 list is revealed…

On Monday, we revealed that Gail Kim won the Pro Wrestling Illustrated Female 50 for 2012 based on her title wins, string of victories and high profile that she has received over the past year. Three days on, we have the full list, and we’ve got it listed after the jump. Before that though, there are a few names which jumped out, after the official statement from PWI Senior Writer Dan Murphy:

All candidates were primarily evaluated for their accomplishments during the period of September 1, 2011, through August 30, 2012, though accomplishments outside that time parameter also were taken under consideration. We evaluated each woman on championships won, quality of opposition, won-loss record, technical proficiency, and momentum/promotional ‘push’ during the evaluation period.

First off, despite being a bit part since dropping the Divas Championship in April and not exactly having many wins while holding it – though the ratio of wins to losses was good – Beth Phoenix takes the top WWE spot by taking the runner-up spot, which is even more curious considering after dropping the belt, she barely won on TV. The top independent wrestler was Cheerleader Melissa, who snagged the bronze medal due to her successfully defending the SHIMMER Championship three times in March before dropping it to Saraya Knight, who places at number 8.

In fact, the top 5 is dominated by indie women, as coming in 4th is Sara Del Rey (whose placing is based on her time before joining WWE) while Women Superstars Uncensored World Champion Jessicka Havok comes 5th.

I am majirly surprised Layla is that high and Eve is that low.

I mean yes for the last 2 months of the time Layla didn't lose a match and was diva's champ....but still in 2011 she was only #13 even thought in that year she was womens/divas co-champ and also retired Michelle McCool.

as for Eve, yes she hadn't at that year time frame been anywhere near the diva's title...but the first half of the year she was mixing it up with Cena/Ryder and had a pivatol heel turn at Mania.

Go Saraya too tho...and honestly can't complain too much these lists are always a bit off.

Wow I though it was June 2011 to June 2012 not Sep. 1st, 2011 to Aug. 30th, 2012.

That bumped Layla up for sure since her reign was still in tact but damn even then she was only back in the ring for 4 full months and she got # 7!

I figured Beth would get the runner up position since she had the longest Divas Title reign in the period for this year.

I also thought Melissa would do well so congrats to them.

I find it odd that Tamina was above Eve because Eve got a couple title shots against Beth in late 2010 and of course had the Ryder/Cena storyline followed by her assistant roles. They also said they take into consideration outside projects and her Stars Earn Stripes thing should have bumped her up some imo.

Oh well next year she should be top 10 for sure.

I guess most of the list is solid.

I'm for sure going to buy this so I can't wait to find it at a store.

i think the PWI Female 50 is more based on wrestling achievements and such. AJ was not in a wrestling storyline. she was just in a character role and has barely wrestled on TV this year, before her storyline with Daniel Bryan she was just jobbing to Beth and Natalya. that's the same reason Eve is so low. the Cena/Ryder storyline was just character based, not wrestling based so it doesn't really count. she's probably only on the list because she had a role in the DOD vs Models feud
