'Animal Practice' Cancelled; PETA Claims 'Victory' Animal-Practice-PETA

http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/10/18/animal-practice-cancelled/

NBC is pulling the monkey off the stage.

Starting next month, the network is yanking freshman sitcom Animal Practice from Wednesday nights.

Not only that: The returning NBC comedy that you’ve all been waiting for finally has a premiere date.

That’s right …

Whitney is coming back!

(No, there’s no date yet for Community).

Animal Practice will be replaced by season two of Whitney starting Nov. 14, which means fans of the wacky veterinarian hospital comedy still get to see a few more episodes before its gone. Whitney does make more sense as a companion for Guys With Kids than Community since they’re both traditional “multi-camera”-style comedies (you know, CBS-like sitcoms). Production on Animal Practice is being halted this week after the eighth episode wraps (five have aired, three to go).

Last night’s Animal Practice fell 9 percent to 3.8 million viewers and a sad little series-low 1.0 in the adult demo, ranking as the lowest-rated broadcast show in the hour (including The CW). Lead-out Guys With Kids, by comparison, at least had 4.3 million and a 1.4 rating.

NBC still has plenty of reason to feel happy about the way fall is going. The broadcaster won the first three weeks of the broadcast season for the first time in a decade (The Voice helped … a lot). NBC was also able to successfully use the power of the Olympics to launch another of its freshman comedies, Go On. But even with Animal Practice ads during the Summer Games and a preview episode after/interrupting the Closing Ceremony, nothing could turn the primate-based sitcom into a hit.

This marks this year’s second cancellation of a new fall series. Previously, CBS whacked freshman legal drama Made In Jersey from Friday nights after only two episodes. What’s next, you think?

-------------------------------

With NBC cancelling veterinarian comedy Animal Practice, activist group PETA is declaring “victory.”

“PETA’s staff are celebrating today in response to news that NBC’s Animal Practice has been canceled,” the organization said in a statement. “The cancellation of Animal Practice sends the strong message that using animals for cheap laughs on TV shows is archaic and uninteresting to today’s viewers, who are sophisticated enough to know that not only is putting a monkey in a lab coat not funny, it’s also cruel.”

Yes, thank goodness that Crystal, the most pampered monkey on the planet, has been rescued from employment with a cast of comic actors in Hollywood (on a series that, if anything, idolized the animal kingdom).

NBC is replacing Animal Practice next month with the return of sitcom Whitney. PETA waged a protest against the freshman comedy, saying trained animals are often removed from their mothers in a “traumatic way,” undergo “physical abuse” during the training process and worried the sitcom might encourage people to buy monkeys as pets.

The organization claims 40,000 members wrote to NBC and the show’s advertisers. Though Animal Practice would have needed more than 50 times that number of extra viewers to have had a shot at remaining on the air.

PETA is a joke anyways, no one takes them seriously. I want to go to their main Headquarters and eat a bucket of chicken right in front of them.

I never heard of the show until you posted this, I just think PETA is a joke. They have a thing going on right now where they're attacking Pokemon.

^ Yeah I saw that it was pretty funny and actually well made.

I think they may have had permission because if not then I would think I'd have read that Nintendo etc would be suing since that was crazy..

I really don't see why Nintendo would allow them to make it if they indeed did.

I don't think PETA gets permission for anything that they do. I don't know for sure though.
