The Writers Guild of America announced its 2012 nominees for the best in TV, and "Breaking Bad" leads with five nominations: Drama Series, as well as a whopping four Episodic Drama nominations for the episodes "Buyout," "Dead Freight," "Fifty-One," and "Say My Name," all of which will be eligible to compete for Emmys next year. (See full list of nominations below.)
"Mad Men" picked up a pair of bids: Drama Series and Episodic Drama for "The Other Woman," which was nominated at the Emmys this year, losing to the pilot episode of "Homeland."
"Homeland," which also won the Emmy for Best Drama, also has two WGA bids: Drama Series and Episodic Drama for "New Car Smell."
The comedy field is led by "Modern Family" with four nominations: Comedy Series and Episodic nominations for "Little Bo Bleep," "Mistery Date," and "Virgin Territory." Of those, "Bleep" and "Territory" were eligible for Emmys this year, but despite the series's otherwise dominant performance at those awards it failed to receive a nomination in the writing race. "Mistery Date" is eligible next year.
"30 Rock," "Parks and Recreation," and "Girls" follow with two nominations apiece.
"The Simpsons" dominates the Animation field, earning three of the five nominations. The last two bids go to episodes of "Family Guy" and "Futurama."
And despite going off the air in January, the ABC soap opera "One Life to Live" competes for the Daytime Drama prize against "Days of Our Lives" and "The Young and the Restless."
