Does Edge Need John Cena?

The big question heading into Wrestlemania 25 is whether or not Edge needs John Cena.


For a second there, it appeared as if WWE was planning on doing a World Heavyweight Championship match between John Cena and Edge.

The storyline was already in place since Edge had stolen a spot in the Raw Elimination Chamber match and the title off of John Cena.

However, WWE decided to go in a different direction.

The company decided that they're going to go with a World Heavyweight Championship match between Edge and the Big Show instead.

Since that matchup isn't nearly as appealing as the original one, does Edge need John Cena at Wrestlemania 25?



Edge Needs John Cena



The simple fact of the matter is that Edge does need John Cena.

For much of the year, the top level wrestlers jockey themselves for a good spot at Wrestlemania.

Not only do they do that because of the potentially higher pay, but they also do that because they want the spotlight.

Think of it this way. Would you rather be in a match at Wrestlemania 25 against John Cena or against Big Show?

Nothing against Big Show. He's a talented performer that has done quite a bit in this industry. However, he doesn't have enough momentum right now to be in such a high profile spot.



Why The Change?



In case you didn't know, John Cena is being removed from the World Heavyweight Championship because WWE has bigger plans in store for him.

The company is still working to sign Hulk Hogan for a match at Wrestlemania 25 against John Cena.

WWE knows that Hulk Hogan can be a big draw for Wrestlemania 25. They wanted to put him in a match against someone big. That someone is John Cena.

If negotiations between WWE and Hulk Hogan fail, then the most likely scenario has John Cena joining Big Show and Edge in a triple threat title match.



Interesting Possibilities



What would be more interesting than a match between Edge and the Big Show would be a match between Edge and Christian.

A match between the two former tag team partners and childhood friends would be a much bigger draw.
