Fox Rejects 'Delirium' Pilot Starring Emma Roberts

This year’s pilot season has claimed its first online fandom victims.

Fox has decided to not move forward with Delirium, an ambitious sci-fi novel adaptation starring Emma Roberts as a 17-year-old in a dystopian future where love is outlawed. Billy Campbell also starred. The pilot was based on the bestselling young adult novels by Lauren Oliver. Instead Fox ordered J.J. Abrams’ robot cops drama, a Sleepy Hollow series, and two others.

A second project with a notable following that was rejected Wednesday: NBC’s adaption of the comic book series The Sixth Gun, which is based on a best-selling supernatural graphic novel that follows the story of six mythical guns, each with its own other-worldly powers. Michiel Huisman and Laura Ramsey starred in that one.

NBC also passed on a present-date update of the feuding families tale Hatfields & McCoys. Virginia Madsen and Rebecca De Mornay starred. Which NBC pilots are getting picked up has yet to be announced.

We recently raised the idea that broadcasters should consider the Amazon model of putting pilots online and letting viewers weigh in before making these decisions. You have to wonder: Would Fox and NBC’s choices have been any different? (Delirium had fans pushing a Twitter campaign urging Fox to pick up the show). And, if network decisions were different, would the choices have performed better or worse, ultimately? Interesting to consider, though no way to really know.

The show about outlawing love and the gun one sorta interest me although I'd have to see some clips of the show before I actually watched the pilot.
