With Batman set to make his next big screen outing in 2015's Man Of Steel follow-up, we're bound to receive many rumors concerning who will play the Caped Crusader as well as the DC Cinematic Universe's approach to the character. This week, it was rumored that Batman will be in his mid-40s in the film, and names such as Josh Brolin, Jon Hamm and Jim Caviezel were brought up for the role. Now, The Hollywood Reporter weighs in with what they've heard, including which actors are said to be in consideration. According to the site's sources, Bruce Wayne/Batman will be in his late 30s or around 40, and he "will be established and rugged. This new movie will not seek to recount an origin story or the rise of the Dark Knight." They also say that the movie is aiming for the tone of his relationship and conflict with Superman to be on par with The Dark Knight Returns, which we already knew would be an influence on the Zack Snyder-directed film.
As for who exactly is up for the role of Batman, THR says that Josh Brolin (Men In Black 3) and Ryan Gosling (Only God Forgives) are the top names surfacing so far, with Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Richard Armitage (The Hobbit trilogy), Matthew Goode (Watchmen), and Max Martini (Pacific Rim) also in early contention. Apparently Brolin, who is a favorite of Warner Bros.', is the frontrunner at this stage. Manganiello was up for the role of Superman in Man Of Steel, but True Blood led to scheduling conflicts. It's possible that the same could happen with his being considered for Batman. Ultimately, however, THR states that any solid casting is "premature", as the script isn't finished yet. Who do you think should play the next Batman?
Set to begin filming early next year (reportedly in Toronto) for a Summer 2015 release, Warner Bros.' untitled Batman/Superman movie currently stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. The new cinematic take on Batman has yet to be cast. Zack Snyder is directing from a script written by David S. Goyer.
