Ever since the release of Man Of Steel, Lex Luthor has been rumored to make an appearance of some sort in the sequel. His company, LexCorp, was referenced a few times in the movie, and as Superman's arch-nemesis, it was expected that he would show up sooner than later. Speculation of his inclusion in the follow-up increased when it was announced that Man Of Steel 2 is actually a Batman/Superman team-up film, as Luthor has been involved in many stories involving the two iconic heroes.
Last night, Latino-Review's El Mayimbe tweeted that Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) is in contention for the Lex Luthor role, after previously working with Warner Bros. on Argo and the upcoming Godzilla reboot. Another rumored candidate has been Mark Strong, who is known for playing villains in his biggest films (he even portrayed Sinestro in 2011's Green Lantern), though that started from a far less reliable source. Now, speaking with Digital Spy, Strong weighs in on those rumors. "All I can say is... watch this space."
It sounds like both Strong and Cranston are two of probably several candidates being considered for the role of Lex Luthor in the untitled film, as the script is currently being written. The same can be said for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, with the likes of Josh Brolin, Richard Armitage and Ryan Gosling reportedly being in contention for the character. Who do you think should play Lex Luthor and Batman in the Man Of Steel follow-up? Stay tuned to CBM for more news as we have it.
Set to begin filming early next year (reportedly in Toronto) for a Summer 2015 release, Warner Bros.' untitled Batman/Superman movie currently stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. Zack Snyder is directing from a script written by David S. Goyer.
