WWE Superstar Darren Young Comes Out -- "I'm Gay."

WWE superstar Darren Young just dropped a bombshell, telling TMZ, he's gay ... and no, this isn't part of the act.

Darren was at LAX Wednesday when we asked whether a gay wrestler could succeed in WWE, and Darren laughed, saying, "Absolutely. Look at me. I'm a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy. I'm very happy."

For the record, Darren is now the first openly gay wrestler ever at WWE ... and the first headlining wrestler ever to come out while still signed to a major promotion.

Other pro wrestlers have been rumored to be gay, but that's it ... just rumors.

Bottom line: this is big, big news. For all its chauvinism and testosterone-driven bravado, coming out in WWE is tantamount to coming out in the NFL.

Of course, wrestling is a little different, particularly because of how physical it is, and how little clothing is involved -- but Darren is completely unfazed. Watch the video to hear why.

I'm happy he doesn't have to hide whatever his personal choices are, but I really hope WWE doesn't go overboard with this and make him that flamboyant "gay" wrestler, just because he's gay.

I too just hope WWE doesn't pick up on this and say oh let's play off that. I love the PTP and don't want them to change!

Yeah he should just stay as his current character.

WWE Divas past and present have taken to Twitter to congratulate WWE Superstar Darren Young, who came out as gay earlier today in an interview with TMZ.

First to show how proud she was of Darren was WWE Executive VP of Creative Stephanie McMahon. She tweeted:

Darren’s decision to come out is historic for the world of sports entertainment. Although there have been open gay and bisexual wrestlers in the past, Darren is the first to come out while under WWE contract.

I'm kind of interested in what the homosexual community thinks about all the hype Darren Young, or any gay athlete gets when they come out. I mean, I think it's great that the men and women no longer have to hide their orientation, but is it disrespectful towards homosexuals to make such a big deal of it? I'm sure the community wants to be just like everyone else, and don't want a trophy every time someone comes out of the closet. How are they ever supposed to feel like they are equals (which they are) when it's made such a big deal of? I think the media means well, but I wonder what sort of perception it sets.

Darren Young has revealed his sexuality to the WWE Universe and they have repaid his honesty with a wave of support.

As the first active, contracted WWE Superstar to come out as gay, Young has received well-wishes surrounding his announcement from all corners of the sports-entertainment world. While Young himself and the WWE locker room prepare for this Sunday’s SummerSlam in Los Angeles, several WWE veterans and executives have tweeted their encouragement of “Mr. No Days Off” in the wake of his historic proclamation.

I respect him for coming out, but I'm still not a huge fan of his, but now that he's out and the response have been positive so far, I wonder if this'll lead to A.R. Fox feeling comfortable enough to return to wrestling, or if it'll be different for him, since he wasn't as well known as Darren is.

I didn't know he was gay. I looked it up on Google, and it says he did gay pr0n. Is he legitimately homosexual, or did he just do it for the money? No matter his orientation, I don't think it's affected his career on the indy scene, as he seems very active. I wonder what his ceiling is though, especially in feds where they're okay with blood. After the situation with Nigel, I wonder how fearful the big feds are of someone like AR Fox going forward.

I think AR Fox is simply Gay For Pay.But it's not like he does a ton of gay porn.

That's the thing, no one truly knows if he's gay, bi, or straight, but after the video was released he disappeared and then I heard he retired, which fucking sucks because he was an amazing wrestler and one of my favs, but now I see he returned last month and was arrested, so I'm not sure anymore what's going on with him.

When did he retire? He's been extremely active on the indies since the end of 2009. Sure there's some months where he only had a few matches, but that's to be expected in a 4 year span.
