Xbox One will launch on November 8, according to an email leaked by an employee of a marketing company that works with Walmart.
The email, obtained by Kotaku, allegedly shows information pertaining to a conference call and includes midnight launches at Walmart for a number of releases in the coming months.
Alongside games like Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, and Grand Theft Auto V are listings for midnight launches of Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the latter of which we already know is launching on November 15 in the United States and Canada.
However, unlike the other eight midnight launch listings, the one for Xbox One on November 8 lacks the "confirmed" tag the others have. That could mean this date is tentative, or may even be something Walmart is planning without any indication from Microsoft.
The date would allow Microsoft to beat Sony to market by one week. Considering the $100 price disparity between the two consoles -- PS4 costs $400 while Xbox One costs $500 -- Microsoft is likely interested in any edge it can get.
Microsoft has already scaled back its launch plans and will be bringing Xbox One to only 13 markets in 2013, eight fewer than the 21 it promised at E3. That could have been due to wanting to release sooner, rather than later, or because of the high level of demand it's anticipating -- GameStop has stated it believes that, between PS4 and Xbox One, this will be "largest console launch in history."
Microsoft has yet to comment on the leaked launch date.
