Winona Ryder’s plight to get her pretty mug back on the big screen might come off.
The actress, who has let it be known that she’d be up to do, well, any sequel to her past catalogue of hits (specifically “Heathers” though), offers The Daily Beast a nice wink, giggle and smirk when quizzed about her involvement in the soon-to-happen “Beetlejuice” sequel.
Ryder, asked whether she might be joining director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton on the sequel to their 1988 hit, says “I’m kind of sworn to secrecy…But it sounds like it might be happening.”
The actress, who made somewhat of a comeback a couple of years back in Aronofsky’s deadly dancer flick “Black Swan”, says some folks are concerned that the sequel will stink, and tarnish the memory of the original, but she’s confident it’ll be great (and you would be too if you were being paid a couple of million).
Ryder was immediately intrigued by the idea.
“It’s not a remake,” Ryder revealed. “It’s 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia [Deetz, Ryder's teenage goth character] so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later.”
The actress, who was just 17 when she shot “Beetlejuice”, says she wouldn’t have gone anywhere near the sequel had Burton or Keaton not opted to return. … but, of course, she’s not saying she’s in it, or that it’s happening, because she’s sworn to secrecy.
