Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World has regularly been called a “reboot” during casting and pre-production. But that’s not really the case. The new “trick” to getting around the stigma of the words “reboot” and “remake” is to make it “sort of” a prequel or a sequel. Such the case with Jurassic World, a soon-to-be sequel to Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece Jurassic Park.
Colin Trevorrow is directing the film, and is also very active on Twitter, which is where a fan asked, “Mr. Trevorrow, everytime I read something, it says JW is a reboot. Please tell us that its not a reboot?! I’m going bonkers!”
Trevorrow responded with a bold proclamation: “Reboot is a strong word. This is a new sci-fi terror adventure set 22 years after the horrific events of Jurassic Park.”
It’s been rumored that Jurassic World, now opening in theaters June 12 2015, will take place during an open and fully functional Jurassic Park, presumably called “Jurassic World”.
Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, and Nick Robinson are all said to be starring.
