Miley Cyrus has been named MTV's Artist of the Year.
The 'Wrecking Ball' singer has been one of the most talked about pop stars of 2013 and cemented her reputation as an outrageous performer at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City in August when she performed 'Blurred Lines' with Robin Thicke and twerked against him while wearing a flesh-coloured, latex bikini and suggestively rubbing herself with a foam finger.
Amy Doyle, head of MTV's music and talent programming strategy, said: ''She dominated the music charts and critics' best-of lists while creating some of the year's most memorable moments.''
Miley, 21, also caused controversy at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Amsterdam in November when lit up what appeared to be a cannabis joint on-stage before accepting her Best Video prize for 'Wrecking Ball'.
Every year, MTV executives pick their top artist of the past 12 months, with One Direction taking the crown last year and Katy Perry in 2011.
This week MTV said Miley's duet with Robin was the year's most watched video on its website and her artist page had more visits than any other act.
As well as her tracks 'We Can't Stop' and 'Wrecking Ball' becoming big hits her album 'Bangerz', conquered the charts across the world.
